Desert Icon and legendary singer Jack Jones passed away at the age of 86. Well-known for his captivating performances and versatile voice, Jack Jones left behind a legacy of community involvement and music. A lot of people know him as the guy who sang “The Love Boat” theme song. Others are remembering him for his rather sickly Grammy award-winning hits in the early 1960s, “Wives and Lovers” and “Lollipops and Roses.” Many think of him as the best great American songbook singer of the rock era. Jack Jones, who passed away at Eisenhower Medical Center, was an institution in the Coachella Valley and also a national treasure. In 1988, he played the first season of the McCallum Theatre and made it his resident theater until the COVID pandemic. CEO Ted Giatas and Former McCallum President made Mr. Jones the representative for theater, and their campaign to sell the McCallum as “your theater” helped it overcome the heaps of debt gathered in the 1990s. His shows became stunning celebrations of not only his talents but also his affection for this community. Jones played with big bands, symphony orchestras, and small combos. He never did the same show twice and lived up to the potential that a lot of people do not actually see. Jack married six times. He married his last wife, Eleonora, in 2009. Apart from her, his two daughters, two stepdaughters, and four grandchildren survive him.
