He gracefully departed on September 22, 2024, at the age of 81 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on October 2, 1942, in Norfolk, VA, Butch was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence will be sorely missed. A gentleman of great character, Butch Dowdy was known for his charisma, love, kindness, and gentle disposition. He found immense joy in his family, with his seven children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren being the greatest treasures of his life. Butch embraced the adventure of travel, immersed himself in different cultures, and admired the beauty of the world. When not on the tennis or basketball court, he was always ready to explore new horizons. Butch Dowdy was deeply committed to his faith as a member of the Mormon Church. His values and beliefs guided him throughout his life, and his example of devotion will continue to inspire those who knew him. Professionally, Butch established himself as the proud owner of Butch Home Inspection Services. His dedication and expertise made a lasting impact on his clients and the industry alike. Butch Leroy Dowdy, Butch's father, and Eva Goldia Dowdy, his mother (maiden name: Goldia), raised him with love and nurtured the compassionate soul that touched the lives of so many. He was a graduate of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, VA, where he excelled academically and laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning. On this day of remembrance, we extend our deepest condolences to Butch's family and loved ones. Though the pain of his absence is profound, we find solace in knowing that his memory will forever remain in our hearts. Funeral services for Douglas Butch Dowdy will be held at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 8464 Tidewater Drive Chapel, Norfolk, VA 23518, USA. Butch is survived by his loving daughter, Marie Dowdy, residing in Virginia Beach, VA, and his daughter Susan Smith, based in Elizabeth City, NC. His daughter Deana Dowdy and son Douglas Dowdy also reside in Virginia Beach. His daughter Stefany Redas resides in Chesapeake, VA, and his sons Wayne Dowdy and Casey Dowdy reside in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, respectively. Additionally, Butch is survived by his grandchildren Maria Young, Alexander Young, Avery Young, Alisay Dowdy, Keagan Dowdy, Noel Dowdy, Brooke Dowdy, Steven Croce, Gabriel Dowdy, Anthony Dowdy, Ryder Dowdy, and Skylar Dowdy, all of whom are located in various cities across Virginia and Washington, DC. In this time of sorrow, may we find comfort in the cherished memories of the moments we shared with Douglas Butch Dowdy. May his spirit always guide us towards kindness, compassion, and love.

Born on March 5, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of Charles and Maria Alston. Brenda was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of those around her with her gentle spirit and kind heart. Her warmth and generosity were evident in everything she did, making her a cherished friend and an adored member of her family. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Alston on August 3, 2024, at the age of 78. She was born on March 5, 1946, in Norfolk City, Virginia, United States to Charles and Maria Alston. Brenda was the beloved wife of William Alston for 48 years. Brenda and William were blessed with seven children: Charles Jr, Maria (spouse James), Robert (spouse Lisa), Sandra, Brittany (spouse William), Nicole, and Nikita. She was also a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren. Brenda and William were blessed with 14 grandchildren: Alexis Alston, Bernard Alston, Shante Alston, Latrice Alston, Renee Alston, Lisa Alston, Tyneesha Alston, Jacob Alston, Crystal Alston, Angel Alston, Eric Alston, Michael Alston, Brad Alston, Ivory Alston. She was also a loving Great grandmother to 24 great grandchildren Brenda worked as an LPN until her retirement in 1988. She was known for her dedication and compassion in caring for others. In her free time, Brenda enjoyed dancing, running, walking, and practicing yoga. On August 3, 2024, Brenda Alston passed away from a sudden heart attack. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Throughout her life, Brenda Alston embraced various passions and hobbies, including dancing, reading, yoga, and running. These activities not only brought her great joy, but also allowed her to maintain a vibrant and healthy lifestyle. Professionally, Brenda dedicated herself to the field of healthcare. She worked as an LPN for Virginia Beach, where she provided compassionate care to those in need.
