"Joey Meyer, former DePaul men's basketball coach, passed away at 74 in Hinsdale, Illinois, on December 29th, 2023. He was a significant figure in DePaul basketball. Meyer coached from 1984 to 1997, leading the Blue Demons to seven NCAA Tournaments and 231 victories. He played for his father, Ray Meyer, at DePaul. Thus becoming the school's fourth-leading scorer before serving as an assistant on Ray's staff for 11 seasons. Meyer's coaching pinnacle came in the 1986-87 season, with the Blue Demons reaching the Sweet 16 with a 28-3 record. In the 1991-92 season, they finished first in the Great Midwest Conference, defeating Final Four-bound Cincinnati twice. Despite his achievements, Meyer faced challenges following his legendary father's coaching legacy. He was fired in 1997 after a stretch without NCAA Tournament berths. Meyer later contributed to basketball as a head coach in the NBA Developmental League. He went on to become a regional scout for the Clippers, and a radio analyst for Northwestern games. He is famous for his integrity and character. Meyer's impact extended beyond the court, earning him respect from peers like Bob Huggins and Roy Williams. "
