John Melvin Farmer Sr February 2, 1944 - February 18, 2025 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Melvin Farmer Sr, aged 81, on February 18, 2025, in Charlottesville, Virginia. John was born on February 2, 1944, in Louisa, Virginia, to his Henry Farmer and Ethel Harris Farmer. He was the youngest of six siblings. John's life was marked by remarkable achievements, deep-rooted values, and a profound devotion to his faith. He graduated from A.G. Richardson High School in Louisa, Virginia, laying the foundation for a lifetime of success. John's strong connection to his community was evident through his role as a Deacon at Bright Hope Baptist Church, where he served with unwavering dedication. John's infectious smile and kind-hearted nature endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Beyond his spiritual pursuits, he had an array of interests that enriched his life. John enjoyed watching wrestling, cheering on the UVA Cavaliers, and indulging in meals at Red Lobster. However, his greatest joy came from being surrounded by his beloved family. On September 23, 1967, John joined in matrimony with the love of his life, Rev. Lila Beatrice Farmer. Their sacred union was truly cherished, and their love remained steadfast throughout their years together. In 1977, John embarked on a new venture and became the owner of Farmer's Taxi, leaving an indelible mark on his local community. He took great pride in his work and demonstrated unwavering commitment to his customers. John was preceded in death by his wife, Rev. Lila Beatrice Farmer, who stood by his side as they walked through life's journey together. He is also preceded in death by his son, John Melvin Farmer Jr., Kelvin Coleman, and Lamont Titus Farmer. John is survived by his son Lyndel Travis Farmer Sr. of Harrisonburg Virginia, John Melvin Coleman (Lisa) of Morganton North Carolina, and daughter, Kristal Farmer Grady, (Larry) Charlottesville, Virginia. John touched the lives of many, and his legacy lives on through his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. Each one carries a piece of his joy and wisdom. John Melvin Farmer Sr will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm spirit, devotion to family, and unwavering faith serve as an inspiration to us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
