Football Veteran - Joe Zuger dies at 84. Zuger served as a quarterback, punter, and defensive back with the Tiger-Cats from 1962 until 1971. This 212-pound, six-foot-two football star appeared in five Grey Cup games, winning in 1963, 1965, and 1967. He was titled the most valuable player of the 1967 contest, and later on, he won another Grey Cup as the general manager of the Ticats. Zuger played his college football at Arizona State University, where he mastered defense and offense as a punter. He made a 24-7 record as a three-year starter while also serving as a punter and defensive back. As a senior in 1961, he completed 67 of 133 passes, which means about 50.4 percent, for 879 yards and eight TDs while also registering ten interceptions and a 42.1-yard punting average. He was then inducted into the Arizona State University Sports Hall of Fame. Born in Homestead, Pennsylvania, the place that gave the world so many CFLers, including Bernie Faloney, Ron Lancaster, and Tom Clemens, Following his retirement, Zuger served as the general manager of the Tiger-Cats from 1981 to 1992. He posted a record of 95-106-5. His team qualified for four Grey Cups during his time and ended up securing one in 1986. In 2015, he was inducted into the Hamilton’s Wall of Honor.
