"General Gordon Russell Sullivan was the 32nd Chief of Staff of the United States Army. He passed away on January 2nd, 2024, in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Born on September 25th, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, Sullivan played a pivotal role in reshaping the army during his career. As Chief of Staff, Sullivan led the army through a transition from its Cold War stance. He briefly served as acting Secretary of the Army under President Bill Clinton. His military career spanned over 36 years. Where he held key positions such as Assistant Commandant of the United States Army Armor School and Commanding General of the 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized). Following his retirement in 1995, Sullivan served as the President and CEO of the Association of the United States Army. He continued to contribute to various military organizations. Including serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Norwich University and The Army Historical Foundation. Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Norwich University. And later a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire. A dedicated family man, he was married to Miriam Gay Sullivan until her passing in 2014. His three children and three grandchildren survive him. General Gordon Russell Sullivan's legacy is one of leadership and unwavering service to his country. "
