Timothy Stephen Wakefield, a beloved figure in the realms of baseball, family, and community leadership, passed away on October 1, 2023, in Hingham, Massachusetts, at the age of 57. Born on August 2, 1966, in Melbourne, Florida, Tim's legacy extends far beyond the baseball diamond. A graduate of Eau Gallie High School in 1984, Tim showcased his athletic prowess at the Florida Institute of Technology, earning the title of Most Valuable Player in 1987 and 1988 while playing first base for the Panthers' baseball team. Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1988, Tim transitioned to pitcher in 1992, embarking on a 19-season Major League career with the Pirates and the Boston Red Sox. As a two-time World Series champion and the franchise's innings pitched leader, Tim's on-field achievements were matched by his off-field philanthropy. Serving as the Red Sox's first Jimmy Fund captain and actively supporting various charitable organizations, including "Pitching in for Kids," Tim exemplified the spirit of giving. An avid outdoorsman, golfer, hunter, and fisherman, Tim's passion for golf extended to charity tournaments that raised funds for nonprofit organizations. Above all, Tim was devoted to his family—his wife Stacy, son Trevor, daughter Brianna, parents Lester and Julia, sister Kelly, and in-laws Patricia and James Stover. "Wake" will be remembered for his selflessness, kindness, and the ultimate team player mentality. The services will be private, but his legacy of generosity, dedication, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
