Sherry found solace and strength in her faith. As a devoted member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church, she embraced the teachings and values of her church community. She was born on April 21, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, to Michael Ortiz Sr. and Maria Ortiz. Tianna grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois, and attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After completing her education, Tianna joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a Chief Petty Officer from February 24, 1993, to March 15, 2005. She dedicated herself to her military duties and received several awards during her service. Tianna's time in the Navy allowed her to travel and experience different cultures around the world. Upon her honorable discharge, Tianna pursued a career in law enforcement. She worked diligently, first as a Sergeant with the Chicago Metro Police Department and later as a Lieutenant with the Charlotte Metro Police Department. Tianna demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership in her roles, leaving a lasting impact on those she served alongside. Outside of work, Tianna was an active member of Union Church, where she found solace and community. She believed in giving back to others but preferred to do so quietly without seeking recognition for her charitable contributions. Tianna deeply loved her family and is survived by her loving spouse, Roland L Phillips Sr., whom she was married to for several years. She cherished the time spent with her two children, Ciera Phillips and Roland L Phillips Jr. Despite her demanding career, Tianna always made sure to prioritize her family, creating wonderful memories that will be cherished forever. In her free time, Tianna enjoyed exploring San Francisco, California, where her daughter resided, and visiting her son in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She had a genuine passion for travel and embraced new adventures whenever the opportunity arose. A true achiever in every sense, Tianna will be remembered as a dedicated servicewoman, accomplished law enforcement officer, devoted spouse, and loving mother.
