Born on December 13, 1937, in Colorado, Texas, to Cecil Hagler and Leola Thompson, Cecil’s life was marked by resilience and devotion. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Patsy Waldrat and is survived by his loving sister, Larue Clark, who continues to cherish the bond they shared. After graduating from Beaumont High School in 1955, Cecil pursued his passion for education at Eastern New Mexico University, graduating in 1961 with a major in Mathematics and Science and a minor in Geography. Faced with the financial challenges of student debt, he joined the Army Reserves in 1963, serving with determination until 1968. His dedication to duty was evident in every phase of his life. Upon returning home, Cecil found his calling in education. He began teaching at Beaumont High School, progressing to assistant principal and eventually principal. His commitment to education was unwavering; he was a mentor, leader, and role model for countless students. Cecil served as principal until his retirement in 1998, dedicating his life to shaping young minds and fostering a belief in the power of education to transform lives. In 1991, Cecil met Christine, the love of his life. Their connection was instant, deep, and enduring. Married on December 26, 1994, they shared a life filled with laughter, understanding, and unwavering support. Cecil’s devotion to Christine only grew stronger with time. After her passing in 2023 following a battle with Alzheimer’s, he remained resilient, his spirit unshaken despite his loss. Cecil also stepped into the role of a father figure for his grandchildren, raising them with boundless love and dedication when his daughter Stephanie faced hardship. His care, wisdom, and support left an indelible impact on their lives. Cecil’s legacy includes his beloved daughter, Stephanie Schleicher; his grandchildren, Joseph Schleicher, Sarah Schleicher, and James Johnson; and his great-grandson, Cecil Cate. Cecil William Hagler was more than a man; he was a pillar of strength, a guiding light, and a superhero to his family. His life was filled with love, courage, and kindness, and his legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew him. In honor of Cecil’s commitment to public education, donations are being accepted for a plaque to be displayed at Beaumont High School, commemorating his dedication and service.
