He was known for his wacky routine and was popular for playing the role of Chi Chi in “Scarface,” a cult classic in 1983. This unfortunate news was delivered by a representative, Roger Paul. He confirmed that Mr. Salazar was found unresponsive with an enlarged heart. Angel was a well-established actor and comedian who built his entire career in New York City comedy clubs after fleeing Cuba when he was only a teenager. New York City, NY
The world mourns the loss of the trailblazing experimental composer, filmmaker, and photographer Phill Niblock, who departed from New York City on January 8 at the age of ninety. His death was confirmed by Blank Forms, an experimental arts and music organization. A self-taught visionary, Niblock's illustrious career spanned five decades, marked by room-filling microtonal drones and a fearless exploration of various artistic media. Born on October 2, 1933, in Anderson, Indiana, Phill Niblock's journey unfolded as a photographer, filmmaker, and director of Experimental Intermedia. His avant-garde compositions, characterized by layered dissonance and a rejection of traditional musical elements, left an indelible mark. Niblock's sonic landscapes, often described as "no melodies, no harmonies, no rhythms, no bullshit," showcased his unique approach to composition. Having encountered Morton Feldman's transformative Durations pieces in 1961, Niblock found inspiration to create his distinctive music, focused on long tones. A motorcycle trip through the Carolina mountains further influenced his sonic explorations, leading to the development of his signature droning style. Throughout his prolific career, Niblock collaborated with renowned musicians, including David Gibson, Petr Kotik, and Lee Ranaldo. His films, notably "The Movement of People Working" (1973–91), captured scenes of manual labor worldwide, offering silent, contemplative observations. Phill Niblock's legacy extends beyond his compositions, with over a thousand concerts at Experimental Intermedia Foundation and a tenure at CUNY's College of Staten Island. His impact resonates globally, and his contributions to experimental music and intermedia performances will be remembered with admiration and gratitude. As we bid farewell to a visionary artist, Phill Niblock's enduring influence will continue to echo through the realms of experimental sound and visual storytelling. May he rest in eternal harmony.
