Ethel Kennedy
Apr 10, 1928 - Oct 09, 2024
Boston, MA
Well-known social activist – Ethel Kennedy has passed away at the age of 96 The widow of Robert F. Kennedy – Ethel Kennedy, took her last breath on October 10, 2024. She was reported to be hospitalized following a stroke that occurred during her sleep on the 3rd of October. Ethel was a social activist who not only raised but also nurtured the 11 children after the assassination of former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and dedicated herself entirely to social causes. Mrs. Kennedy sustained herself through her devotion to her family and her strong Catholic faith. She initiated the “Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights” soon after the death of her husband. Moreover, she advocated for causes such as human rights and gun control. But, Ethel Kennedy rarely spoke regarding her husband’s assassination. Ethel never remarried, and her successive life was devoted to keeping her husband’s memory alive, rearing her children, and working on behalf of the causes her beloved husband championed. Her activism took her from across the country to all around the world. She did a lot of things, from marching along with Cesar Chavez in solidarity with the Farm Workers movement to opposing Kenyan dictator – Daniel Arap Moi. In 2014, President Barack Obama awarded her the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Her activism continued into the last decades of her life. With a lifespan’s work in human rights and social justice, Ethel left behind her nine children. Along with them, her 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces survive her and love her dearly. Indeed, it is a sad day for the entire world as we have lost yet another gem.
