Vernita Aikens GaryDriver August 02, 1951 - December 30, 2024 Vernita Aikens GaryDriver, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in Gary, Indiana. She was born on August 02, 1951, in the same city where she spent her entire life. The loving and vivacious Vernita will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in their hearts. Vernita was a fun-loving person with a deep love for music. She could often be found playing board games, reading her beloved Bible, and serving the Lord with an unwavering devotion. Her warm and caring nature endeared her to all those fortunate enough to know her. Vernita began her education at Emerson High School, where she completed her studies. She took great pride in her attendance at Emerson High School. Vernita's journey of learning provided her with a solid foundation upon which she built a fulfilling life. Vernita is survived by her beloved son, Charles E. Carter Jr; her cherished grandson, Charles E. Carter III; and her three loving sisters, Betty (William) Bell, Elaine Aikens, and Mary Ellen Aikens. She is also survived by her stepson, four stepdaughters, special friends Sherrie and Terrie Carter, and a host of nieces and nephews. Their lives were truly enriched by Vernita's presence, and her loss will be deeply felt. Vernita was preceded in death by her parents, Leotis Aikens Sr. and Mary Aikens, as well as her four brothers, Ramon D. Aikens, Harold Dean Aikens Sr, Alvin Charles Aikens, and Jeffrey Morgan Aikens. Additionally, her two sisters, Juliette (Chicken) Aikens-Jamerson and Maggie Deloney-Cooper, left this world before her. Charles E. Carter Sr., Vernita's special friend, also passed away prior to her departure.
