Richard (Rick) B. Rosenfeld, aged 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by love at Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s Siteman Cancer Center on January 8th, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Janet Lauritsen; two sons, Jake Hoffmann Rosenfeld and Sam Hoffmann Rosenfeld; two daughters-in-law, Erin McGaughey and Erica De Bruin; brother Robert Rosenfeld; three grandchildren, Ida May, Henry, and Frankie, and numerous devoted friends, family, and colleagues. Born in St. Louis on December 20th, 1948, to Jack and Marjorie Rosenfeld, Rick's academic journey took him to the University of Wisconsin and Reed College before he earned his Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Oregon. His illustrious career in criminology included positions at Skidmore College and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he served as Curators’ Distinguished Professor Emeritus. Rick's love for research, service, and public engagement shone through his numerous accolades and over 100 scholarly publications. Yet, he cherished life's joys equally, from music (a lifelong Elvis fan) to food, nightlife, movies, and travel, always in the company of cherished friends and loved ones. A proud son of St. Louis, Rick's legacy extends far beyond academia, touching the lives of countless individuals in his community and beyond.
