His illustrious career included commanding the USS CAVALLA, participating in cold war special operations, and holding key roles such as Deputy Squadron Commander and Deputy Director of the Attack Submarine Division in OPNAV. Promoted to flag rank in 1981, Admiral DeMars commanded Naval Forces Marianas and played a vital role in the development of submarine programs. His leadership as Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program for eight years ensured safety and efficiency within the Navy. After retirement, he remained active, advising industry and government, supporting charitable causes like the Central Union Mission, and contributing to the Naval Submarine League and Naval Historical Foundation. Admiral Bruce DeMars' legacy extends beyond his naval achievements, as he was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate by the USNA Alumni Association and Foundation in 2009.
