"Qapik Attagutsiak, aged 103, passed away on December 14th, 2023, in Siuraq, Nunavut. Marking the end of an extraordinary life that spanned a century. She was born on June 11th, 1920, on the island of Siuraq, Nunavut. She was the last known survivor of the Inuit who contributed to the Second World War. At the age of 10, she embarked on training as a midwife, showcasing her resilience from an early age. During World War II, Qapik played a pivotal role in the National Salvage Campaign. Thus, collecting animal carcasses in the Arctic for recycling into munitions, aircraft glue, and fertilizers. Her work in the war effort was clear when she handled maggot-covered dog carcasses with her bare hands. Qapik's philosophy in life, ""We cannot give in. We cannot give up. We always have to think, if this situation is very hard, we can trudge ahead and help each other,"" exemplified her resilience. Post-war, she continued her work as a seamstress and midwife. Thus contributing significantly to the Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team in Ottawa. She was honored with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Qapik Attagutsiak leaves behind a legacy of strength and determination. "

Paul transitioned from player to coach after a traumatic brain injury while playing hockey. Thus leaving a lasting impact on his teams and developing the character of young men. His passion for hockey and teaching was unparalleled, shaping the lives of those he mentored. Paul enjoyed the tranquility of his home on the south shore of Lake Superior when he was away from the rink. Where he loved engaging in activities like reading, walking, saunas, bonfires, and fishing. His love for people manifested in memorable dinner parties. Where he shared his homemade sauce and recipes learned in Italy. Paul's proudest moment was the birth of his son, John-Paul, with whom he shared an intense bond. Fostering a father-son relationship characterized by love, fun, and mutual respect. The family expressed gratitude to the MKK staff for their exceptional care during Paul's journey. Highlighting their compassion and commitment. "
