James (Jim) Edward Dostal, 59, of Cedar Rapids, departed this world on January 3, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services, with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home overseeing the arrangements. Survived by his devoted wife, Amber Dostal, loving father Charles Dostal of Cedar Rapids, and caring brother Randy Dostal of Brunswick, Georgia. Preceded in death by his mother, Diane Dostal, and stepmother, Suzanne Dostal. Born on June 8, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jim was the son of Charles and Diane (Turner) Dostal. On July 6, 1996, he married the love of his life, Amber Miller. Jim's legacy is intertwined with his passion for education and athletics. A standout linebacker, he led Jefferson High School to its only state playoff appearance and was later inducted into the Jefferson Football Hall of Fame. Jim continued his athletic success at Coe College, earning third-team All-American honors and captaining the team to the NCAA Division III playoffs. His dedication to education led him to Morningside College, the University of Iowa, Kirkwood Community College, and Upper Iowa University before graduating from Coe College with a teaching degree. He furthered his education with a Master's degree in educational leadership in 2002 and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration in 2012 from the University of Northern Iowa. Jim's teaching career spanned decades, impacting students at Kirkwood, Jefferson High School, and beyond. He coached football and track, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Jim's greatest gift was his ability to form lasting relationships, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he taught, coached, and loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
