Beverly Leigh Herndon Baron (Leigh), 67, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on October 14, 2023. Born August 17, 1956, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Leigh was the third of the four daughters of the late Preston G. Herndon and Jean Mars Herndon. Leigh graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1974 and went on to study early childhood education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. After receiving a BS in Education, Leigh moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. She began teaching in the Monroe City Public School System in the Special Education department with an emphasis on supporting hearing impaired children. Following the births of her first son and only daughter, Leigh and her growing family moved to Tipp City, Ohio, where a second son was born. She spent the next 30+ years dedicated to raising three children, teaching, tutoring, and caring for others. Her family--children, their spouses, and her grandchildren--was her primary focus, and she worried over and took care of them until the end, sometimes to the exclusion of her own needs. Leigh was active in her local church and community. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. An avid knitter and reader, Leigh also loved the sun, surf, sand, and seafood at the Atlantic Ocean. She enjoyed dozens of annual, extended family vacations taken at Holden Beach, North Carolina. Leigh was preceded in death by her parents. Jeff Spaugy

Jeff Spaugy

Age - 63

October 26, 2023

Jeffery Lee Spaugy passed away on October 24, 2023 at the age of 63. Jeff or "Spog" a nickname he loved, was born in Sidney, Ohio on April 25, 1960. His parents were Richard and Marylee (Ehemann) Spaugy who preceded him in death. Jeff was a proud graduate of the Vandalia-Butler High School Class of 1978 and enjoyed attending his class reunions. His career fields were varied, as he worked in the aviation field as an aircraft refueler for Aviation Sales, Inc. and Emery Air Freight, an air freight coordinator for various freight forwarding companies and as a lawn care telemarketer. By far his favorite workplace was Emery Air Freight, where he was among the first people to be hired. Jeff's life was one of immense personal challenges and in later years, health struggles. However, through them all, he maintained his love of family, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, and most of all he loved music. From a very early age, he had a profound love for the music of the Beatles, and in later years Jimmy Buffet. His passion and knowledge of the different genres of rock and roll was endless. With his earthly journey completed, it's not hard to imagine him enjoying his beloved Buckeyes with our Dad or strolling down some heavenly music row listening to the music he so dearly loved. Jeff is survived by his children, Carra, Cody and Casey (Shannon), along with four grandchildren; sisters, Teri Wintrow (Jeff), Cathi Spaugy, and brother, Phil Spaugy (Amy), along with many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. If you wish to remember or memorialize Jeff's life, spend some time doing things he loved. Watching a sporting event with friends and family or listening to some good rock and roll, particularly "Breakfast with the Beatles" on Sunday morning and to Jimmy Buffet anytime. Our family would like to give thanks to the first responders of the Vandalia Police and Fire Departments for their compassionate care for Jeff over the last several years. Also, we thank the staff of KHN-Grandview and the Kindred Hospital for their tremendous professionalism and care for both Jeff and our family during this final days.Show more
