Yvonne "Sug" Hackworth, age 81, of the Mowrystown Community, passed away Sunday September 10, 2023. She was born September 30, 1941 in Adams County, OH, daughter of the late Everett Beckham Bailey and Elizabeth Hill Bailey. Sug was a Graduate of Buford High School class of 1959 and was a member of the Mowrystown Church of Christ. She was one of the founding members of the Mowrystown Life Squad. She wad worked at Robertshaw Controls in Hillsboro, G. E. in Avondale, and Weastec in Hillsboro. Surviving are her three daughters, Vicki Russell, Jayme (John) Tidwell and Lori (Charlie) DeHart. Seven Grandchildren also survive, Aaron (Hope) Russell of Hillsboro, Eric Russell, Amy (Wes Boggs) Taylor, Elijah (Emilee) Taylor, Logan (Mollie) Hackworth, Levi (Katelyn) Becknell and Luke Beckwell. also left to mourn her passing are 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Barbara Ferrell, Brother, Ted (Ruth) Bailey, sister-in-law, Rosalee Bailey, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sug was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Bailey, Billy Bailey, Dale Bailey, and a grandson, Chad Ryan Russell. Services will be held 1:00 p. m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Mowrystown Church of Christ, with Logan Hackworth and Chris Gobin officiating. Interment will follow in the Buford Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church on Monday from 11:00 a. m. until the time of services at 1:00 p. m. The Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown is serving the family. . Michael David "Mike" Droop, age 61, of Wilmington, OH passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at his home with his family present, and into the loving arms of his Lord Jesus Christ after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was born in Port Chester, NY on June 29, 1962, to the late Gerhard and Margot (Woll) Droop. Mike was an Aeronautical Engineer at Airborne Maintenance Engineering Services (AMES) and a proud United States Air Force veteran. A tireless worker and not one to sit still, Mike volunteered his engineering services for a special build of a B-17 WWII plane at the Champaign Aviation Museum in Urbana, OH. In his spare time, he loved riding his Harley-Davidson Touring Motorcycle. He also enjoyed antiquing with the never-ending thrill of the hunt, seeking that special treasure. He took pleasure in caring for his orchids and loved history. He treasured time in the garden, canning salsa and pickles, specifically, the bread and butter variety. He was a member of the Pearl Street Church of Christ in Lynchburg, OH, an active volunteer at the Champaign Aviation Museum, and a member of the Iron Butt Association (distance motorcycle riding). Mike is survived by his wife, Krista (Warren) Droop; daughter, Jenny (Brian) Schneider of Hilliard, Ohio; brother, Ronald (Sally) Droop of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Cindy Marie Shaffer, 64, of Hillsboro, Ohio entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, November 18, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 16, 1959, in Xenia Ohio to her parents the late Kenneth Lee Golden and late Barbara Marie Newland Shaffer. Cindy married her husband the late William "Billy" Samuel Shaffer on October 4, 1980, at the Little Giant Restaurant in Wilmington, Ohio where Cindy was a waitress. Cindy was a loving mother and grandmother to her children, grandchildren, and many others. Cindy was a daughter of God. She supported her husband in ministry for 40 years and took part teaching the Word, singing, and playing the piano while traveling with The Shaffer Family. She was a loving caretaker to many throughout her life family and non-family. She was recently caring for others through her job as a home health aide with Personal Home Assistance, where she set the standard high and was loved by those she cared for. Cindy is survived by her children Jerry (Alicia) Shaffer, Samantha (Nick) Birkhimer, Tami (Nate) Bradley all of Hillsboro, Ohio. Her five grandchildren Cordell (Kylee Walters) Shaffer, Emma (Cody) Bingham, Levi (Keira Captain) Birkhimer, Noah Birkhimer, and Ally Marie Hutchins Shaffer. One Sister Rose Peyton of Hillsboro formerly of Irvington, Alabama, Two Brothers Robert Roak of Dahlonega, Georgia, Gerald Roak of West Chester, Ohio. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Cindy was preceded in death by her husband William "Billy" Samuel Shaffer on November 24, 2022, her father and stepmother Kenneth Lee (Claudette) Golden, Mother Barbara Marie Newland Shaffer, mother and father-in-law William Pierce (Evelyn) Shaffer, sisters Cheri Jones and Jeannie Brooks, and sister-in-law Gloria Jean Newland. John Edward Hertlein, was bornJuly 19, 1925 on the family farm in Vandalia, Ohio to george and Martha (Bohse) Hertlein. He departed this life on October 29, 2023 at the age of 98. John owned Direct Washer Service in Dayton, Ohio until 1961 when he sold the business and moved to the farm on Hamer Road in Brownstown where he lived until his death. Farming was truly the work he enjoyed above all others. He retired from Mac Tools in Georgetown, Ohio. John was a World War II veteran belonging to the 101st Airborn Division, Screaming Eagles. He made several jumps with his silk parachute as a member of the elite group Band of Brothers. Upon return from the war his mother made dresses for his sisters from the parachute. He was a member of the Georgetown American Legion Post #180, the Sardinia Masonic Lodge and the Peace Lutheran Church in Arnheim. John leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Mary Alice Hertlein. He married Mary Alice on January 6, 1952. He also leaves behind a son, Paul (Barbara) Hertlein, two daughters, Jean (Jeff) Harvey and Marilee (John) Carroll. Also left to mourn his passing are his precious grandchildren, Martha Anderson, Tricia (Jerry) McClain, Leigh Ann Carroll, John (Ahira) Hertlein, Greg Harvey, Kelli (Zane) Cooper, Andy (Katie) Hertlein and John (Elysia) Carroll, 15 Great Grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and his brother, Ralph (Peggy) Hertlein. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie, Dorothy Ella, & Ruth; seven brothers, Arthur, Russell, Herman, Harold, George, Elmer, and Robert. A Celebration of Life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church-Arnheim, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 12:00 p. m. with Pastor Laura Sheffler officiating. Masonic services will be held just prior to the funeral service. Interment in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery will be held at a later date. Christopher Neil Bogan, 51 years old, unexpectedly passed away October 8, 2023. Chris was born in Wilmington and was a 1990 graduate of Blanchester High School. He proudly served his country as a crew chief on the Blackhawk helicopter in the U. S. Army from 1990 to 1998. He was stationed at Fort Ord, Monterey, California, spent time in Haiti during Operation Peacekeepers, and retired from the Army while stationed at Fort Drum, Watertown, New York. In 1996, Chris received the Soldiers' Medal for his heroism in rescuing a man from a burning car. After leaving the Army, Christopher attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Addiction Studies. He worked as an addiction counselor until 2023. Chris married his wife, Jane in 2011 and they settled in Wilmington in 2016. Chris enjoyed participating in fantasy football and golf with his friends and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed listening to many types of music, attended many concerts, and had an extensive knowledge about his favorite bands and musicians. More than anything, Chris loved his family and attending his nephews' sporting events and family gatherings over the years. Chris is survived by his wife, Jane; parents Donna (Rick) Clevenger of Sabina, Ohio, and Michael (Lora) Bogan of Xenia, Ohio; siblings Amanda (Bill) Knauff of Jamestown, Ohio, Bethany (Zachary) Hanenkrat of Springboro, Ohio, and Erin (Martin) Reeder of Springboro, Ohio; nephews and nieces Bryceson (Molly) Knauff of Jamestown, Ohio, Brant Knauff of Jamestown, Ohio, Connor Hanenkrat of Springboro, Ohio, Isaac Hanenkrat of Springboro, Ohio, Cecelia Reeder of Springboro, Ohio, SarahJean Hanenkrat of Springboro, Ohio, and Cassie Reeder of Springboro, Ohio; three aunts; numerous cousins; and beloved kitties Gabby Joy and Greta Hope. Tessa M Hicks, Age 25, beloved daughter, granddaughter, friend, and colleague, passed away on October 14, 2023, in a tragic car wreck. She was born on May 30, 1998, in Wilmington, Ohio, and will be forever remembered for her vibrant spirit and kind heart. Tessa's education began at Clinton Massie High School where she graduated with the class of 2016. Throughout her academic journey, she demonstrated determination and a thirst for knowledge that earned her the respect and admiration of her peers and teachers. After completing her education, Tessa embarked on an enriching career at R-L Transfer Service in the Dispatch . Her commitment to her work was evident to all who had the pleasure of collaborating with her. Tessa's attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills made her an invaluable asset to the company. Beyond her professional achievements, Tessa's true legacy rests in the lives she touched and the relationships she cherished. She was a loving daughter to Gina Hofer of Clarksville, OH. Tessa shared a deep bond with her maternal grandparents, James Lee and Kay Hofer of Clarksville. They provided love and guidance throughout her life that shaped her into the remarkable person she became.
