Deirdre Galvin Wheeler

location-icon

Suwanee, GA

Deirdre Galvin Wheeler, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed unexpectedly in her home on January 6, 2024. Deirdre was bornSeptember 14, 1972. She grew up in Boca Raton, Florida, attending andgraduating from St. John Paul II Academy. She became an enthusiastic FloridaGator in 1990, earning a degree in Health Education in 1994.Deirdre met Brian Wheeler, her loving husband of nearly 26 years, in 1996.Deirdre and Brian were married on October 4, 1997. Their daughter, Ansley, wasborn in 2000 and son, Davis, in 2002 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where they livedfor 8 years. They moved to Suwanee in 2008, where they built their lives andmade lifelong friendships. Deirdre was a loud and proud lacrosse mom; there wasalmost nothing she loved more than watching her children compete. In lax and inlife, she was most certainly their number one fan.First as a teacher, and later as a director of Prospect Christian Preschool whereshe worked for 20 years, Deirdre’s God-given gift was caring for children. Sheunderstood them; she made them feel special and heard. Her huge heart for thechildren and families she served made the preschool a warm and loving place forthe more than 500 families she touched over the years. She loved her Prospectcommunity and led the preschool with compassion, humor, patience, andwisdom.Deirdre’s devotion and love for her family and friends ran deep. She was generouswith “I love yous” – whether you were part of her family, a dear friend, or one ofthe many teens found at the Wheeler home. Throughout Ansley and Davis’ lives,Deirdre and Brian’s home was “that” house – the one where kids could play, relax, talk, eat, or simply be. She may not have fit the ‘cookie-making’ momstereotype, but you could find friends and family gathered in her kitchen around ahuge island of nachos. She was also “that” mom – the one who would listenwithout judgement, offer thoughtful advice, a warm hug, and give you a reason tolaugh.Deirdre loved to travel, whether on a long weekend road trip, to her parents’home in Vero beach (her happy place), their favorite spot in Mexico, or aEuropean adventure. She was happiest on the water… the beach, the lake, oreven the pool… cocktail in hand, spending time with family or friends. She alsoloved to scuba dive, which she’s enjoyed with her family for nearly 40 years.Deirdre lived with passion, she listened with empathy, and she loved with herwhole heart. She was authentically herself and leaves the world a much betterplace having shared her gifts with all of us.Deirdre is survived by her devoted husband, Brian; her loving children, Ansley andDavis; her parents, Edward Galvin Jr. and Jo Anne Galvin; her brother, EdwardGalvin III, and wife, Eunhui; her sister, Heather, and husband, Keith; her niecesand nephews: Shannen, Thomas, Hannah, Layla, Liam, Joseph and Lincoln; anddear friends. Deirdre’s absence leaves a huge hole in our hearts, but her beautifulspirit and love will always be with us.A celebration of Deirdre’s life will be held Saturday, January 13, at 1 p.m. atProspect United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia (or live streamed atwww.facebook.com/prospectumclawrenceville ). In lieu of flowers, Deirdre’sfamily requests donations in her honor to Prospect Christian Preschool (1549Prospect Rd, Lawrenceville, GA 30043) or to Spectrum Autism( https://spectrumautism.org/ ).If you join us for Deirdre's celebration of life, please skip the "funeral black" and wear color to reflect her vibrant,  beautiful spirit!
