Nancy Cook Payne of Falls Church Virginia passed away Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at age 82, joining her husband of 60 years, Dessau, who passed away in 2021. She is preceded in death by her parents Alley and John Cook and her sister Marcia. She is survived by her sons Christopher Payne (wife Susan) of Portland, Maine, and Matthew Payne (wife Dianne) of Alexandria, Virginia, and four grandchildren: Jacob, Sarah, Ethan and Ryan. Nancy was born in Georgia and her roots were strong there. She met Dessau at Emory at Oxford and was a graduate of Emory, Tulane and George Mason University. She raised her family and built her career in northern Virginia. She loved the arts and found personal expression in pottery, needlepoint, quilting, basket weaving, gardening and water colors. She devoted herself to children and families in the community, from her early days in social work to leading commercial day care centers, licensing, lobbying, and ultimately teaching early childhood education at NVCC for 15 years. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community. The family is working to schedule a service at Dulin Methodist in Falls Church and Arlington National Cemetery. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1974 to 1977 as a SP4. Mr. Homer Elkins Warner, 79, of Falls Church, VA, passed away February 8 after a year-long illness. The son of Hubert and Margaret Warner, he spent most of his youth in Elkridge, MD. After graduating from Howard High School, he proudly served his country as an airman at Loring AFB despite a lack of fondness for the Winter in Northern Maine. After his military commitment, his lifelong interest in aviation took him to United Airlines where he worked over 36 years as a customer service agent at BWI and Dulles Airports. For the last several years at Dulles, he was the Group Coordinator, in charge of organizing ticketing and bag check services for busloads of travelers at a time. For over 10 years he worked for an educational tour company ensuring that school groups from across the country had worry-free visits to the Nation's Capital. In his free time and retirement, he enjoyed taking cruises in the Caribbean, air shows and dining at seafood buffets. Homer is survived by his son Brad of Alexandria, his partner Samira Cherif in Falls Church, and sister Maureen Myers and brother Larry.

Robert James Lloyd, Jr., MD

Robert James Lloyd, Jr., MD, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024 at his home in Falls Church, VA. Bob, as he was known to loved ones, was born in Washington, DC on January 6, 1943. He grew up in Providence, RI where he attended La Salle Academy and Providence College. He returned to Washington to attend medical school at Georgetown University in 1964. He completed his internship and residency in Medicine at Georgetown, as well as a fellowship in Rheumatology. He went on to serve in the Navy, where he completed a second Fellowship at the Veterans Administration and cared for patients at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He went on to have a long and accomplished career as a Rheumatologist. He cared for thousands of patients in the D.C., Virginia, & Maryland region and received many awards, including Clinical Faculty Awards from Georgetown University. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Master of the American College of Rheumatology. In addition to his love for medicine, Bob loved family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen & Robert I, and first wife, Helena Gibbons Lloyd. He is survived by four children, Robert III (Peggy), David (Christina), Jennifer (Eric) and Kevin (Alexis). In addition, Bob was married to Mildred “Midge” Lloyd and is survived by her and three step children, Delancey (Karima), Molly (Blane), and Megan (Tim). Bob is survived by twenty-one grandchildren, Jack, Grace (Ian), Peter, Ryan, Madison, Katelyn, Lindsey, Lucy, Zachary, Regan, Caroline, Ramsey (Aja), Eamon (Oliva), Case, Ryan, Alia, Nicholas, Mitchell, Anna, PJ & Maggie and two great-grandchildren, Ronan & Penelope. He loved spending time with family and could be found at soccer and basketball games, scouts, dance recitals and recording all of the family milestones over the years. Celebrations of Bob’s life will occur on Saturday, February 10, 2024, beginning with a 9:45 am Eulogy and 10:00 am funeral at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church located at 7500 St. Philips Ct. Falls Church, VA 22042, followed by a 12:00 noon interment at Fairfax Memorial Park located at 9900 Braddock Rd. Fairfax, VA 22032 and a reception from 1:00-3:00 pm at The International Country Club located at 13200 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, VA 22033. Please join us for any or all of these celebrations, as you are able. Flowers may be sent to the Church address above on Friday or Saturday before 9 am. Raymond Ellis Brann, Jr.

Raymond Ellis Brann, Jr., died of renal failure on February 2, 2024, at Virginia Hospital Center. Raymond grew up the son of a school superintendent in the town of Heathsville, in the Northern Neck of Virginia. While in high school, he was chosen to serve as a page in the VA General Assembly. He later attended the Macintyre School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, where he was also a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Years later, he completed his MBA at Old Dominion University. Upon his graduation from UVA in 1962, he served two years in the U.S. Navy as a supply officer, including tours to Panama and the Mediterranean, before beginning his banking career. He held numerous executive positions with the First Virginia Bank corporation, leading banks in Tidewater, Richmond, and the Tri-Cities area. He ended his career as Executive Vice President of the FVB Corporation at its headquarters in Falls Church, where he facilitated the bank’s merger with BB&T (now Truist). He was proud to have served on several non-profit boards throughout his career. Raymond was an active UVA alumnus and enjoyed tailgating at Virginia football games, for which he held season tickets. He was an avid gardener, known for keeping vegetable gardens and even transplanting favorite specimens every time he moved. He took great pleasure in lounging on the beach at his retirement condominium in Sandbridge, Virginia. He was a close follower of news and politics, reading two newspapers a day up until his final illness. Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Geraldine Copley Brann; his three children Sara Brann (Bill), Raymond Brann III (Aleisha), and Lee Brann; and two grandchildren Eli and Emery Brann. He is also survived by his brother William Perry Brann. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 9, at Gibeon Baptist Church, 48 John Deere Road, Callao, VA 22435.
