Obituary Wilmer E. Wagner, 92, of Palmyra passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023. Born February 1, 1931 in Lebanon County, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary (Bashore) Wagner. A retired State Farm Insurance Agent, he was a member of United Zion Church, Palmyra, a 1949 graduate of Hershey High School and active with Gideons International for over 40 years. Wilmer participated in the local Prison Ministry, drove ambulance for Palmyra Ambulance Association where he was a certified EMT and a trained volunteer chaplain at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. He was a bell ringer for the Salvation Army at Christmas time. Enjoyment for Wilmer was his visits with friends on Londonderry Village Campus, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, weekly walks with his daughter and Friday morning breakfasts with his sons. Surviving are his wife of 71 years Arlene H. (Hostetter) Wagner; children Mary Lou Grant (William), Paul R. Wagner (Ruth), and Timothy S. Wagner (Lori); brothers Elvin R. Wagner (Barbara) and Nathan Wagner; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 15, 2023 at Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 North Chestnut Street, Palmyra followed by a Celebration of Life fellowship. Geraldine F. "Gerry" Brown Obituary Gerry F. Brown, 84, of Hummelstown passed away Friday, November 24, 2023. Born October 12, 1939 in Hummelstown, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Anna (Kaley) Gingrich. After 58 years of marriage, she was the widow of Arthur E. "Art" Brown since November 2015 and also preceded in death by sisters Mary Baum and Ruth Eisenhour. Retired with 32 years of service from AMP, Inc. , she was a member of Ampra retiree association. She was a member of Geyers United Methodist Church, Middletown, but attended Hanoverdale Church, Hummelstown. Gerry loved 50's music (especially Elvis), was an avid Penn State Football fan, and enjoyed baking cookies for family and friends. Her peanut butter temptations were legendary. Surviving are her daughter Crystal A. , wife of Stuart "Reich" Feeser, III of Harrisburg; grandchildren Chad S. , husband of Laura Feeser of Carlisle and Hilary A. , wife of Bryon Fryer, Jr. of Crofton, Maryland; and great grandchildren Grace A. Born January 16, 1929 in Hershey, she was a daughter of the late David and Pasqua (Pichini) Pala and the widow since July 2016 of John W. Summy, after 68 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by sons Neil Summy and Brian Summy; brother Anthony Pala; and sisters Mary Vagnerini, Rose Thierwechter, Dora Borzilleri, and Matilda Mattera. Terry Lee Hough, 68, of Hummelstown, PA passed away Monday, October 16th, at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born in Pottsville on April 29, 1955, he was a son of the late William F. & Patricia J. (Karns) Hough. Terry was a 1973 graduate of Blue Mountain High School. He also attended King's College, and received his Bachelors & Masters Degrees from Penn State University. Terry retired from the PA Department of Conservation & Natural Resources; he had worked as an urban planner. He was a member of St. Mark's UCC, Cressona. Born May 6, 1933 in Stochsburg, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Brandt) Heffelfinger and widow of George H. Early since October 2020, after 67 years of marriage. Obituary Albert H. Shirk, 100, formerly of Shellsville passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at The Middletown Home, Middletown. Born November 22, 1922 in Lebanon County, he was a son of the late Edwin and Mary (Herr) Shirk and widower of Dorothy J. (Grimes) Shirk since June 2022, after 74 years of marriage. He was the last surviving of his immediate family, being preceded in death by brothers Arthur and David and sisters Alma, Mabel, Margaret, Hilda, Lillian, Frances, and Janice. Retired from Olin Miller, Hummelstown, he previously worked for the former Farm Bureau and was a World War II U. S. Army veteran having served in Japan as a lineman in 1945-1946. Albert was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Grantville and lifetime member of the Shellsville VFW Post #9639. Surviving are his children Richard A. Shirk (Cathy), Stephen H. Shirk (widower of Paula), Michael E. Shirk, Randy E. Shirk (Mary) and Mary E. Martz (widow of Michael); and numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. Cary Lee Engle, 85, of Lemoyne, PA, entered the presence of his Savior on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at his home. Born in Hershey on July 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Clarence L. and Margaret E. Holbert Engle. He graduated from the Hershey High School carpenter shop in 1956 and attended Grace College in Winona Lake, IN, where he met his wife, Barbara. He retired as a self-employed contractor after many years of building and maintenance work for area businesses, churches, friends, and neighbors. He formerly was employed by the Brethren Construction Company, building Grace Brethren Churches in Armagh, Chambersburg, Dillsburg, Lititz, Myerstown and other cities. His life's work and passion were for building the local church, caring for the physical structure as well as the spiritual discipleship of his fellow brothers and sisters with countless hours laboring in love for His Savior. He was known for his quality craftsmanship and as a quiet, patient, knowledgeable, and meticulous worker. He was a member of Melrose Gardens Grace Brethren Church, Harrisburg, since its establishment in 1949 as well as a board member of the Grace Brethren Retreat Center in Denver, PA, for many years. Cary was preceded in death by his sister, Judy K. Calvin. He is survived by his wife Barbara Echard Engle of Lemoyne; his sister Patsy Pacheco of Tallmadge, OH; one son, Lary D. Engle of Lancaster; three daughters, Lee Ann Horst (Blaine) of Norcross, GA, Linda K. Sawanowich (Joseph) of Lemoyne, and Loreen E. Katz (Evan III) of Harrisburg; and two grandsons, Ethan C. Horst (Taylor) of Fort Wayne, IN, and Evan Katz IV of Harrisburg. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 9, 2023, at 11 AM in the Melrose Gardens Grace Brethren Church, 2205 Swatara Street, Harrisburg, with The Rev. Christopher L. Knight and The Rev. Alan R. Shirley M. Wert Bonawitz, 88, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023, in the UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital. Born in Hummelstown on January 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John I. and Elizabeth J. Nye Wert. Shirley retired from the Lower Dauphin School District where she managed the library at the Annie B. Nye School in Hummelstown for 20 years. Prior to working for the school, she was a secretary in the Statistics Department of the former AMP, Inc. ; and was a teller and secretary for President Lauer at the former Hummelstown National Bank. Shirley was a 1951 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. She was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Union Deposit. Shirley enjoyed decorating her home for every season and flower gardening; and had a love and joy of animals. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Bonawitz, on October 19, 2011; two brothers, Wayne W. Wert and Charles C. Wert; and four sisters, Betty J. Cassel, Dorothy I. Lenker, Faye W. Wagner and Mary I. Fisher. She is survived by two sons, John W. Bonawitz, Jr. husband of Debra E. of Harrisburg, and Peter W. Bonawitz husband of Anne L. of Hummelstown; three grandchildren, Michelle A. Stank wife of Zachary R. , and John M. Bonawitz both of Harrisburg, and Kenneth C. Dixon of Denver, CO; two great grandchildren, Jeremy and Amelia Stank; and several nieces and nephews. Roy M. Graden, Jr. , 87, of the Middletown Home, and formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in the home. Born in Vandergrift, Westmoreland Township, on September 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Roy M. Graden, Sr. , and Pearl Crytzer Glover. Roy retired as a construction contractor for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. After retirement he was also a tool salesman. Roy was a graduate of Ford City High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Roy was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. He was a PIAA High School Basketball Referee, as well as a college basketball referee. Roy volunteered as a Harrisburg Senators Usher. An avid Pittsburgh Pirates baseball fan, he was a member of its Booster Club. Roy was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), and its Hershey and Gettysburg Region Chapters. He served as Chairman of the AACA Hershey Fall Meet in 1984; was President in 1985 of the AACA Hershey Region and then became a Board Member of the region in 1986. Roy earned the rank of Senior Master Judge for the AACA in 1986. In 1994, he was elected National President of the AACA. The AACA Museum, Inc. , in Hershey elected Roy their President in 1995. Along with his love for antique cars, Roy enjoyed collecting old toys. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Wolf Graden, on August 7, 2019; and a son, Timothy P. Graden, on January 23, 2012. Roy is survived by one son, Ty M. Graden husband of Tania of Hummelstown; and two grandsons, Thomas and Matthew husband of Kayla. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc. , 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown. Richard C. "Dick" Peters, 92, of Hummelstown, passed away Friday September 8, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Harrisburg on September 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Elmer and Alice Slough Peters. Dick retired as the Director of Housekeeping from the former Dauphin Manor. After retirement he worked in construction building houses and selling real estate. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Hummelstown High School. Dick proudly served with the U. S. Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown. Dick enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, hunting and camping. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda K. Moore Peters, on May 25, 1992. Dick is survived by a son, Lawrence E. Peters husband of Anita of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Lynne A. Shellenberger of Mechanicsburg; a step-daughter, Jennifer L. Bale wife of Bill of Annville; six grandchildren, Jessica Root, Lisa Clapper wife of Jason, Bryan Taylor husband of Jennifer, Kaylynn Bale, Stephen Bale and Dylan Parker; two great grandchildren, Sawyer Clapper and Beckett Clapper; his companion, Carole Ebersole Denham of Hummelstown; one brother, Lawrence E. Peters of Hummelstown; two sisters, Beverly Miller wife of James of Ono, and Millie Singer wife of John of Freemont, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
