, 72, of Ethan, SD, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, May 8, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Ethan. Lynn Edward Freeman was born on February 13, 1951 in Parkston, SD to Edwin and Jessie Rose (Behrendt) Freeman. He had 3 siblings, Stanley, Anita, and Orin. He attended grade school at Country School Worthen #1, then attended high school in Ethan, class of 1969. Following high school, he went to Wyoming Tech and received his Mechanics degree/certification in 1970. Lynn was united in marriage to Eileen in June 1984, and they were blessed with two children. Lynn began his career focusing on his passion for race cars, engines, and driving as he continued working as an apprentice to further his career. He started a Speed Shop in 1975, then moved on to Exhaust Pro's for a number of years. During that time, he relocated to Sioux Falls before settling in Tea, SD where he helped raise his family. In the mid 1990's he started Freeman Sportswear. He loved being able to make sports coats that people would wear for years to come. It gave him great pride that many years later he would see people wearing his coats, which made him smile and would even spark a conversation with a total stranger. Lynn just couldn't resist what he loved most, driving his 18-wheeler on adventures for weeks at a time. He enjoyed driving truck and was particularly fond of his time at Johnson Feed out of Canton, SD, which he said created a lot of close and lasting friendships. Until the very end, Lynn looked forward to visiting with friends and family and would carry on a conversation with you like he knew you forever, even if you were a complete stranger. Along with his family, some of Lynn's closest friends played a critical role in supporting him during his long battle, notably; Doug Adams, Kevin TerMeer, Melvin Freeman, and Joe Dykstra. As a family we are so appreciative of their support and friendship. Lynn was grateful to share his life with his children, Crystal (Patrick) Bruggeman and Kyle Freeman; two grandchildren, Zachary Johnson and Jaxton Johnson; along with his many nephews and cousins. Lynn was preceded in death by both his parents, Edwin and Jessie Freeman; two brothers, Stanley Freeman and Orin Freeman; uncles, George, Don, and John; aunt, Amy Behrendt; and son-in-law, Tony Johnson. Lynn passed peacefully and we are thankful for all the support, prayers, and caregivers that took care of Lynn throughout.Show more
