Willie Alvin Moss, 66, loving husband of 37 years to Connie Margaret Williams Moss, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday morning, August 30, 2023 at Trinity CME Church with the Reverends Dwight Crew and Josh Mosley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Jewel, a historic community in Warren County, Willie was the only boy out of nine children born to the late Mable Hill Moss and the late Alvin Moss Jr. After graduating from Warren County High School in 1971, and being a patriot, he served our country by joining the Navy after which he served as a reservist. Willie then returned home and worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections as an officer for the Augusta State Medical Prison. It was there that he met the love of his life, moving to Stapleton upon their marriage in 1986. Shortly thereafter, he obtained his CDL and began his trucking career. He drove both long-haul and short-haul with his last contract, along with Todd Edenfield in Waynesboro, with Evans Trucking in Savannah. This relationship developed into a long-lasting friendship with Todd becoming more like a brother he never had. Because of being on the road so much, he preferred to spend his off-time at home, piddling around the house, watching old westerns (especially Gun Smoke) and Perry Mason, eating good food—boy, did he love to eat!—and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his community and, being civic-minded, served as councilman for the City of Stapleton. Willie never met a stranger—people were drawn to his bright smile, big laugh, good-natured attitude, and great sense of humor. His big laugh always preceded him into a room—he was always laughing about something. Being easy-going and laid-back, Willie rarely, if ever, let anything get him upset but calmly took everything in stride. Having accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, Willie served him at Trinity C. M. E. in Jewel and at Stapleton Baptist Church. The love of Jesus was reflected through Willie’s love for others. He had a love for all people and did not see the color of their skin. He recognized that we are all children of the same God, the Father, and treated everyone as brothers/sisters in Christ. He treated others as he wanted to be treated—he did not talk ill of anyone, was an encourager, and was honest in all he said and did. Willie was just a happy person full of God’s love. He did not complain during his sufferings nor did he lose his faith and love for his Savior—he trusted the Lord’s plan for his life explicitly. He is now experiencing true joy, peace and love in a new, pain-free body in his eternal home in Heaven. Everyone who knew Willie respected and loved him. His loss has created a void that no one can fill but his spirit—and laugh—will be forever in our hearts. Willie is also preceded in death by his sister, Carrie Yarborough; daughter, Dawn Whitaker; and great-grandson, Enrique Cumbee. Others left to cherish his memories include his children, Jackie Brooks, Debra Utley (Rodney) and John "Buster" Cumbee (Tiffany); seven sisters, Doris Chapple (Edward) of Cincinnati OH, Beatrice "Sally" Hawkins (Lucious) of Sparta, Burnstine Charleston of Sparta, Elizabeth Hunter (John) of Anderson SC, Phyllis Moss of Jewel, Pam Moss of Jewel, and Brenda Moss of Decatur; seventeen (17) grandchildren; twenty-four (24) great grandchildren; a multitude of nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and friends. Serving as pallbearers are Shaquille Brown, Kim Charleston, Lonnie Daniels, Anthony Hannah, Melvin Ivey, and Ricky Williams. Special friends and honorary pallbearers are Edward C. James, Todd Edenfield and the staff of Evans Trucking. The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday evening, August 29, 2023. The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made directly to James Funeral Home by clicking the link below or by mailing to PO Box 588, Wrens, GA 30833. https://www. jamesfhwrens. com/resources/make-a-payment
