Middletown, OH

Willie Frank Adams, affectionately known as Peter to those most close to him, was born on Jan 17, 1940 in Smithville GA to Jaroney Adams and Marie (Martin) Glenn. He moved to Middletown Ohio at an early age with his mother and sisters and attended Middletown City Schools. Though he did not graduate, he did not let that deter him from building a life for himself. Having grown up in a family of cooks, Willie took knowledge and skills passed down from his mother and her sister's and developed a love for cooking. It brought him great joy to have family, friends but especially his nieces and nephews call him and ask for recipes and cooking pointers. He loved to cook but his passion was baking. There wasn't a cake nor pie that Willie couldn't master and make it turn out amazingly good having you taking that last bite wanting more!! Willie turned a negative into a positive when he found himself incarcerated and assigned to be a cook. It was here he perfected his skills and grew to be a wonderfully gifted self-taught chef. Upon his release, Willie took his skills and eventually began working for the Duff's Smorgasbord Corporation. This would be the beginning of a journey that would take him across the country. Homer Duff, the owner of the Duff Corporation, was so impressed with Willie's skills and had gained much respect and trust in him that Willie was offered the opportunity to travel for the corporation opening up new Duff's locations throughout Ohio, Florida and Louisiana as the Head Chef teaching and developing new recipes for the restaurant chain. While employed at Duffs, he met the love of his life, Sandra Byrd. They married and spent 51 loving years together. Sandra was a devoted and loving wife. They were a playful couple that both had a passion for food and loved to travel so it made it easy for Sandra to support Willie, staying by his side as they moved from location to location as he was ordered to move around opening new restaurants. Later in life, the two of them would run a cleaning service together, cleaning office buildings at night. Throughout their marriage, Sandra remained a loving, carrying and supportive wife, nursing Willie as his health failed and was unable to walk and do for himself. Demanding that he be brought home in his final weeks, she remained by his side doing much of the nursing and his care herself until he took his last breath. Aside from family and food, Willie had a deep love for the Lord. He gave his life to the Lord at an early age and loved to read his bible. It didn't take much to get him talking about his faith and love. One thing he was not shy about was spreading love. He always greeted you with a great big smile and hearty laughter. Making others smile and laugh was a signature trait that will truly be missed. Willie was preceded in death by both his parents, three sisters Helen Long, Mildred Gaston and Olamae Pearson and sister-in-law Joanne Cauley. Willie and Sandra had no children of their own but the love of the many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and life-long friends James Gates, Freddy Nori and great neighbor Terry Brown will carry the love and memories of Willie knowing that he loved them all dearly.
