When he started mixing his music, it would make people forget about their long workdays and tough times. He made people smile without even trying. John was a funny, outgoing and humble man. He was down to earth, a great friend and got along with everyone. He was a man who impacted so many lives not only through friendship, but through the music he mixed. If you didn't see him DJing, you could probably catch him at the gym every day. He was a car enthusiast who took pride in his vehicles and a tattoo aficionado who enjoyed getting new ink. He was also an avid gamer. John loved his family, especially his 3 children. He was very active in their lives and was always hands on. He took part in all of their school and extracurricular activities. It gave him great joy to do all he could to ensure his kids were well taken care of and happy. We might not ever understand why this happened to such a great and wonderful man, why life is unfair and cruel. But John's legacy will live on through his family and friends that he made along the way. And he will never be forgotten. He lived his life to the fullest and stood by his motto: "Get Lost In The Music!" Thoughts and memories may be shared at www. richardsoncolonial. com.Show more

Orla Boyde Curnutt, 88, of Port Lavaca, passed away, Saturday, October 21, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1935, to the late Orla Hezekiah and Marie Elizabeth Curnutt. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jo Ann Curnutt; daughter, Deanne Weise; son, Greg Curnutt, and 5 grandchildren. Dad graduated from Canadian High School. He excelled in sports, particularly football. Unfortunately, a senior year knee injury kept him from playing college football. He went to McMurry College in Abilene, pursuing a major in ministry. He met Joann Perkins at the drug store in Abilene. They were married in 1957. Dad was drafted into the army and stationed in Germany. Joann joined him and while stationed there, they traveled to many places in Europe including Italy, France, and Switzerland. After returning from Germany, they had two children whom they loved dearly. The family lived in Canadian, Amarillo, Pampa, then later moved to Mexia, TX. Boyde worked for the Bistone Municipal Water district in Mexia, then as financial director for Teague. They lived in Mexia for 12 years and enjoyed many weekends on Lake Mexia; family picnics, fishing, water skiing and boating. During the summers, the family would also spend time at a family farm in Yula, TX, and a fish camp near Palacios. In 1978, the family moved to Port Lavaca. Dad worked as the financial director of the City of Port Lavaca, He then went to work for the Calhoun County Appraisal District and retired in 1989. They lived in Port Lavaca for 45 years and enjoyed traveling, visiting with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Boyde was a hard worker and provider for his family. He always put his family first and lived his Christian values every day. One time on a date with mom, my grandma wouldn't let Joann go out, without taking her younger sister Evelyn along. Evelyn really wanted to go too. They went to the drive-in and Boyde bought Evelyn a fudgesicle. On the first bite, it stuck to her tongue, and she squealed. Joann was quick to state, "serves you right for having to go!"While working as an appraisal adjuster, a lady that kept coming in to protest her lot value every year. She insisted that all the lots should have the same value. They were actually valued based on the size and per square foot. She was really wearing them out with questions and trying to get her lot valuation reduced to the lowest amount. Finally, Boyde explained to her that "we can use square foot, front foot, your foot or my foot, as long as it approximates market value. " She accepted his explanation. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joyce Givhan, and Betty Karen Eggleston.
