September 11, 2023
Richmond, VA
William D. Queen, III, 81, affectionately known as "Bill," was born on October 24, 1941, in Upland, California. He peacefully departed this world on September 3, 2023, in Richmond, Virginia, with his best friend, Alyce, at his side. Bill was the beloved son of Joe and Nan Metrovich and joined them along with his brothers Philip Metrovich and Terry Metrovich in heaven on that fateful day. He is survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Alyce Copeland, and her son, George. Bill is also survived by his children, Marita wife of Rob Skacel, David husband of Tracy Queen, Anne Marie wife of Dave Vanecek, and Lauren, wife of Josh Ramirez. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His early career saw him serve as an Airman in the US Air Force (1959-1966). Bill pursued his education in Accounting at San Diego State University and graduated in the Class of 1970. He was a proud member of the Beta Alpha Psi fraternity. Later in life, he embarked on a successful and fulfilling entrepreneurial journey in real estate and continued until his health necessitated retirement. Bill had a genuine passion for real estate and a heart for helping others. In his leisure time, Bill especially enjoyed the sport of tennis, delving into the mysteries of physics, indulging in his love for history, and cherishing moments of socialization with his friends and family. He was a great storyteller. He was an active member of Westwood: Tennis & Racquet Club, where he served on the board, captained teams, and organized the weekly "Thursday Night Tennis" group which still continues on today. Bill's personality was a testament to his fine character. He approached life with a caring and positive attitude, always equipped with an answer and if not, the right perspective. He was a man of action and unwavering integrity, and his philanthropic spirit shone through as he silently supported various organizations, including supporting the ministry of his oldest grandson. Bill firmly believed that feeling accomplished and caring deeply for others were the most important aspects of life and that when two people cared deeply for each other, the best outcomes were achieved. A memorial service will be hosted at the Westwood Club in the Wimbledon Room. Bill's family and friends are invited on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 5 p. m. to 6 p. m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the following causes that were close to Bill's heart: Bill's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
