Hubert "H. A. " Arthur Appleby, a radiant and joyful soul who touched the lives of all who knew him, departed this world on November 26, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of family and loved ones. Born on December 8, 1950, in Denver, CO, H. A. was a beacon of joy whose spirit continues to shine through the memories he leaves behind and the unforgettable sound of his booming laughter. H. A. shared a journey of love and companionship with his beloved late wife, Karen Kay Phipps, whom he married on October 24, 1981. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, raising two wonderful children before Karen's passing in 2004. Family was at the center of H. A. 's world. Whether gathered for holidays, celebrations, camping trips to the lake, or lazy afternoons on the porch, his heart overflowed with love for those he held dear. He was deeply proud of his family, something that was so evident with every embrace we had with him. H. A. is survived by his children, Holly Appleby, Corey Appleby and wife Racheal, and Laci Brown, two grandchildren, Destini Brown and Dylan Hayner. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Sandy Terhark and husband Scott, nephew Lincoln Terhark and wife Marnie, niece Brandi Carmickle and husband Randy, 4 grandnieces, Summer Preston and husband Alex, Bree Terhark, Tawni Terhark and Bella Terhark, grandnephew Tucker Carmickle, great grandniece Atlas Preston, and a multitude of cousins, "adopted children and grandchildren". His deep love for life was contagious, his smile a radiant testament to the happiness he found in every moment. H. A. 's heart, pure gold, endeared him to all who crossed his path. His kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand defined the essence of his character. The great outdoors held a special place in H. A. 's heart; from mountainside adventures to ATV rides with his family, fishing excursions, boating trips, and spirited days at the shooting range with his newest firearm, he embraced the beauty of being outside. H. A. also appreciated the simple joy of moments at home, whether mowing his "back 40" on his riding lawn mower or enjoying a beer and chatting about life with friends and loved ones on the porch. H. A. had a passion for collecting artifacts from the WWII era, each piece carefully sought after telling a story that added depth to his cherished collection. His hands were skilled in the art of creation, from bookcases to display cases; if he needed it, he would build it. A proud co-founder of Carpenters Service in 1975 alongside his lifelong friend Randy Adams, H. A. dedicated 42 years to building not only a successful business but also a lasting friendship. Randy came over every morning to enjoy coffee with H. A. while they discussed their agenda for the day- a daily ritual of friendship and coffee that continued every morning even after retirement in 2017. H. A. and Randy shared a lot of life together, between the business they built, a beautiful shared mountain home, and the joy of raising their families together. H. A. is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Karen Appleby (Phipps), father Cecil Appleby, mother Wilma Appleby (Ingels), and brother Gary Appleby. A visitation to celebrate H. A. 's life will be held on December 6 at 4 pm at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, located at 7577 W. 80th Ave, Arvada, Colorado 80003. The celebration of his remarkable life will take place in 2024, a fitting tribute to a man who made every moment count.Show more

Betty June (Wolf) was born in Denver, Colorado on June 2, 1929. She was the eldest of 4 children. She was 94 years old when she passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 27, 2023. Betty attended Garden Place Elementary for her grade school years, Junior High School in Wheat Ridge through the 8th grade and Belleview Preparatory School in Westminster to complete her education and receive her high school diploma. She and Ted had known each other during high school, but it wasn’t until 6 years later that Ted courted her over several months, eventually marrying on October 3, 1953. They added to their family Ted Jr. and twin girls, Colleen and Colette. Betty’s working days included a number of titles and professions, but her 2 favorite were as a Drapery Manager at Wesco Fabrics and an Instructional Aide at Willow Creek Elementary. Her starring role though was as beloved wife to Ted and devoted Mom to Ted Jr. , Colleen and Colette. Betty was a woman of many talents and enjoyed cooking, hospitality, crocheting, sewing, traveling to Glenwood Springs to fish and soak in the hot springs and many road trips to various parts of the United States. Betty and Ted attended Englewood Bible Church where Betty was a deaconess. She helped cook many a feast for church events as well as funeral dinners, sewed quilts and layettes, did hospital visitations and also devoted countless hours to the church’s missionary group. She and Ted lived in Willow Creek in Centennial, CO where they played active roles in the community, Ted serving as President of the HOA for 2 terms and Betty serving as First Lady! Betty and Ted went global after raising their family. In 1990, their travels took them to the island of Bonaire where Ted engineered the fiber optics for the new switch bay and Betty taught English lessons to children. Teaching these young students was a highlight for Betty. Their passport stamps tell a story of Bolivia and beyond, following missionary paths to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. They said Bon Voyage, going on 3 Disney Cruises with their son and daughter-in-law for their 50th, 51st and 52nd wedding anniversaries. Betty was blessed beyond measure to celebrate a milestone this past October - her 70th wedding anniversary to Ted. Her pride and joy were her 7 grand children and 10 great grandchildren. Euza Freitas

Euza Freitas

Age - 88

December 1, 2023

Euza de Freitas 1935 - 2023 Euza de Freitas, aged 88, died of natural causes on November 30, 2023. Euza was born in Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil to Gumercindo and Regina. She married and had twins in Curitiba, Parana. When the twins were three and she was 8 months pregnant with their third child, Euza and her family immigrated to Rhode Island. Throughout the many moves in her life- from Brazil to Rhode Island, Rhode Island to Arizona, Arizona to California, and finally, from California to Colorado, with a smile that could light up a room and a personality to go with it, Euza was always making friends, many whom she remained close with throughout her life. She was kind, generous and thoughtful and often considered everyone's comfort and needs before her own, even in her final months when her own comfort was diminishing. In her mid-fifties, her love of cooking and sharing meals with family and friends inspired her to attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. After she graduated from the program, she moved to Los Angeles to start a new career as a private chef. Euza loved music and dance, especially the Argentine Tango, which she danced into her 80s. In recent months, when she could no longer dance on her feet, hearing a familiar Samba would bring that beautiful smile to her face and she would move her body, seated in her chair or bed, in time with the music. She also adored children, and when she decided to end her career as a private chef, she became a nanny to several beloved children including Emma (mom, Julie), who were like family to her. She is survived by her children, Gisah (David Schumacher) de Freitas, Fabio (Pasia Lee) de Freitas and Ionah (Hugh O'Neill) de Freitas, her grandchildren, Tizita Schumacher and Christine and Jade Cha, her brother Gumercindo (Lea) Rocha, sister-in-law Norma, beloved cousin Luizita and all her loving nieces and nephews. Euza is preceded by her partner Otto Brandt, her parents, her grandson Jack Beckett O'Neill and her brother Elbio. May Euza be remembered not only for the fierce love she showered so generously on her family and friends and for the generosity of spirit she showed everyone she encountered, but also for her courage and tenacity in the face of adversity and challenge.
