William Mayville Jr Obituary

WILLIAM J. MAYVILLE, JR. , age 48; beloved husband of Jessica (nee Finzer) for 20 years; loving father of Hunter; cherished son of William J. , Sr. and Dianne Mayville; dear brother of Mark (Samantha), Daniel (Ann) and Mike (Nicole); son-in-law of Cathy Farnung and Jerry Finzer (deceased); uncle of Grayson, Lucas, Danny, Jr. , Jayden, Mason, Olivia, Riley, Elleana and Michael. Bill graduated Buffalo State University with a degree in journalism. He then went onto get his Master's Degree in Sports Management at The Florida State University, where he worked in the sports information department, working with the football and softball teams. After graduation he moved to Orlando and was married. He worked with the Orlando Rays baseball team (farm team of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays) through Disney. After that he relocated to Cleveland, OH in 2006, with his wife, in February 2007 his son Hunter was born. Bill did freelance work for the Plain Dealer covering high school football games. He worked at the YMCA of Parma for a couple years as the membership director and then worked at the YMCA of Cuyahoga Falls. He then worked for the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities where he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2019 and had to stop working a couple months later due to his surgery. While working at the YMCA, Hunter started playing sports where Bill became a coach for T-Ball, which started the next 12 years of coaching different baseball teams with Hunter. He was a coach for Parma Heights, North Royalton Bears, Premier Ohio and after becoming ill helped out where he could with Impact Baseball Club. Bill also helped coach the Holy Family boys' basketball team for a couple years. He was a board member and Registrar at the Parma Hockey Association for a couple years. He was a diehard fan of all sports, among his favorite teams were Florida State, Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, Cleveland Indians, and Notre Dame. But his greatest joy in life was Hunter, he would have done anything for him, the pride and joy he had was clearly evident by everyone who saw him, he was there cheering him on at everything, even when he felt his worst. After his first surgery in February 2020, he watched his son on video in the hospital win the CSHL hockey playoff game for Parma and told the Dr's I will be at the Championship game next weekend in person to see him play, and he was. There are so many stories to tell about Bill and he touched the lives of so many people his whole life, in so many different ways, there is definitely a void left in the world now. Rest easy, your pain is gone, you are now up there playing with Buster (the "goodest boy") and we know you are looking down on us and will be guiding Hunter through life.
