Age - 87
May 3, 2023
Thomas Joseph McLellan (87) of Burlington, Massachusetts, formerly of
Newton and Plymouth passed away on April 26, 2023 surrounded by his
loving family on Cape Cod.
Tom, fondly known as Tucker, Dad, Grandpa, Peepa and Bumpy was born
to Joseph and Margaret McLellan on October 4, 1935 in Newton,
Massachusetts. He was an avid Boston sports fan who loved playing and
watching any and all sports especially his beloved Boston Bruins. He
attended Northeastern University where he anchored the husky hockey
team in net (without a mask) until he left to serve our country in the US
Army.
Tom worked for GTE Sylvania for his entire career where he provided a
happy life for his family.
Tom is survived by his beloved Elizabeth (Betty) McLellan his children;
Kathleen Brine and her late husband Jim, Tom McLellan and wife
Leeann, Colleen Allen and husband Bill and Kelly McLellan Swanson
and Wally Swanson; his sister Jean Schiavone; and sister-in-law, Sally
McLellan.
Tom and his brother Dick, married the King sisters, Betty and Sally "Red",
and raised their families around the corner from one another in Newton.
Together they celebrated holidays, took ski trips to New Hampshire, and
vacationed in Green Harbor, frequently accompanied by their mothers.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Peggy and Oz, his siblings Peggy
Davis, Dick McLellan and Ruth Vlass and in-laws Helen and Fred King.
One of his greatest joys in life was his grandchildren Jennifer (Brine)
Marra and husband Patrick; James, Colleen, and Kaitlyn Brine; Megan
McLellan, Ryan McLellan and wife Tori, Kelsie (McLellan) Sudano and
husband Kyle; Elizabeth, Billy, and Maggie Allen; Jack and Owen
Swanson; and his "greats" Rylee and Carter Gooley, Logan McLellan;
Kinsley and Hayden McLellan, Rosie and Declan Marra and Leah
Sudano.
Additionally, Tom will be sorely missed by Patty, Dow, Rick, Sue,
Casey, Rob, Rocco, Danny, Lucas and Kiel and a multitude of nieces,
nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Tom's most noteworthy achievement was the beautiful family he created
and nurtured for sixty-two years with his one true love and partner in life,
Betty. Tom and Betty had a rare love that never waivered. The twinkle in
his vibrant blue eyes was never brighter than when with his Bets.
Tom was a man ahead of his time. He was a true partner to Betty when it
came to everything, but especially with being a hands-on dad. Simply put
he was the best dad ever.
He led by example how to be a good, kind, caring and humble person.
These actions permeated through his family and friends and trickled down
to everyone who had the pleasure of being in his presence.
His favorite games, shows, and concerts to watch were that of his children
and grandchildren. It was often joked that he, his "green machine" and his
Rand McNally map could find any rink, field, gym or auditorium where
they were playing, singing or dancing.
Tom was the ultimate handyman and helper. He could build, fix or paint
anything and was always the first person to jump up and help. His
willingness to lend a hand extended beyond family and friends, to the
church, to coaching, to volunteering. Wherever help was needed you
could always count on Tom.
As much as he loved his family, he loved and adored the animals in his
life. He was known fondly as the animal whisperer. The mere mention of
grandpas' name brought joy and excitement to his four-legged
grand-animals. He will be missed endlessly by Bennie, Ellie and Gus.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at 11:00 am.
The mass will be at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 61 Canal Rd,
Orleans, MA. A luncheon to celebrate his life will follow directly after
mass from 12-2 in the church hall.
