William Hugh Dutton, 84, of West Chester, PA, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Hugh as everyone called him, was born April 24, 1939 in Upper Chichester. He grew up in the Twin Oaks section and recently lived in East Goshen township. He graduated from Upper Chichester High School and PMC. He worked in the lab at Avisun and in the accounting department of Sun Transport. Hugh worked with his sister and brother-in-law at their bed and breakfast "The Boulevard" in Wilmington, DE. He also worked part-time at Delaware County Supply where his two sons were also employed. He attended Memorial Presbyterian Church as a child, then Siloam United Methodist Church, and most recently attended The Power Place. His passion was to spend time with God and his family. He loved to pray for everyone, right up until the end. He faithfully attended a prayer meeting at The Christian Academy for over thirty years. He poured God's love into everyone he met. Hugh was the son of the late William Henry Dutton III and Eula Maxine Yeisley Dutton. He is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla Irene Whitby Dutton, daughter, Diane Irene Dutton Moyer (Shane), sons; Craig Richard Dutton(Debbie), and William Howard Dutton, grandchildren, Ethan (Madisyn) Dutton, Madison Dutton Nazario (Samuel), Luke Dutton, Brody Dutton, Sadie Moyer, and Savannah Moyer, great grandson, Bennett Dutton, sister, Judith Dutton Powell, and her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 10-11AM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA. Gerard Aloysius "Gerry" Gallagher Jr. , 79 of West Chester, PA passed away Tuesday December 5, 2023 at home. He was the husband of Alicia Gallagher (Aquilani). Born December 31, 1943 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Gerard Aloysius Gallagher and the late Lorraine Carey Gallagher. Gerry graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School and St. Joseph's University, and served in the Army National Guard of NJ With his entrepreneurial spirit, Gerry established a successful food brokerage company, which he ran until earlier this year. His hobbies included sailing, surfing, paddleboarding and was a model train enthusiast. In addition to his wife, Gerard is survived by his children, Chad Gallagher (Kristin), Ryan Gallagher (Virginia), Pamela Harvey (Philip), step daughters, Alicia Huppman, Janice (Brian) Smith, Nancy (Adrian) Izquieta, beloved grandchildren, Mia & Brynn Gallagher, Dylan & Shea Gallagher, Drew, Piper & Garrett Harvey, Nate & Andy Gruber, Julian Izquieta, Evan Smith, Max and Miles Huppman. Also survived by his siblings, Lorraine Moretti, Deborah Mazur (Mark), Candice Gallagher and Gary Gallagher. Gerry's life journey was a testament to the values of faith, integrity, hard work, and a commitment to family. He was a "Man's Man" with an infectious optimism and a zest for life. David Van Leuven Taylor, 88, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Brookside at Cross Keys Village, Cross Keys, PA. He was born March 16, 1935 in West Chester, PA. He was the son of the late George Hickman Taylor, Jr. and Esther Browne Taylor. He was a graduate of West Chester High School, class of 1952, and went on to further his education at Goldey Beacom College, Wilmington DE; BS in Finance and Economics at Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA; ABA Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University, Princeton, NJ; and MBA degree at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. David married Dorothy E. Kipp on May 27, 1955, and settled in Swarthmore PA, where they started a family of three daughters; Cynthia, Jennifer and Catherine. David was employed throughout his banking career at Provident Trademens Bank and Trust Company, Provident National Bank, and Girard Bank; all in Philadelphia, PA. He rose through the ranks from teller to Assistant Vice President. In 1977, David accepted a position at Bank Administration Institute in Chicago, IL; and he and Dorothy relocated with two youngest daughters to Park Ridge, IL. During his career at BAI, David frequently traveled throughout the United States and Europe, speaking at banking conferences; including in Vienna, Austria at the World Banking Conference. David was an active member of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, Swarthmore, PA; serving as Elder, Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and on several Pastoral Nominating Committees. He had a deep and abiding faith that he passed on to his family. Upon retirement, David and Dorothy moved to Westminster, MD; where they purchased a 10 acre wooded property with trout pond. In addition to chopping his own wood for their woodstove and working extensively to renovate and landscape their property, David took up several new hobbies; taking a Master Gardener class; becoming a beekeeper, member of the Beekeepers' Association and successfully harvesting multiple harvests of honey; selling antiques both online and at Westminster Antique Mall, and taking flying lessons. David also was Director of Carroll County Food Sunday. He was an avid reader, nature lover, and loved surf fishing. David especially loved vacationing with his family for 44 years at Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Ocracoke Island. David is survived by Dorothy, his loving and devoted wife of 68 years; his daughters: Cynthia Royer (James), Harrisburg, PA, and Catherine Effland (Charles), Frederick, MD; grandchildren: Sara Royer Matthews, David Royer; Taylor, Amanda and Abigail Effland; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Van L. Bezdon, and brothers, George H. Taylor, III and Richard D. Taylor. Marleen Susan Smith (nee Gomolka), 69 years old of West Chester, PA passed away on November 30, 2023 after an unexpected and devastating battle with glioblastoma. She was lovingly known as "Susie" to family and close friends. Marleen is predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Cecelia Gomolka. Marleen is survived by her two loving children Sean Smith and Jacqueline Hill (nee Smith). Loving grandmother to Samantha and Connor Smith and Natalie Hill. Survived by sisters Jean Marie Frank (Joel), Jo Anne Lichman, Jane Richardson and brothers Steven Gomolka (Judy) and Carl Gomolka (Suzanne). Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She had several lifelong friends that she loved dearly. Marleen was a 1972 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School and was a knowledgeable legal secretary with a strong work ethic. She worked diligently her whole life, even up until her diagnosis and was skilled at what she did. Marleen was one of a kind. She was always able to laugh at herself. She earned the loving title "Captain" as she was often the first one to make the plans that needed to be made. Marleen was always available for her family and friends and would give you anything and often did, without even having to ask. Marleen was very loyal to her family and if you told her something in confidence, you could rest assured that trust was there. A fun and youthful grandmother, she was one to always come up with an interesting adventure with her grandkids (and her own children) for the day. She loved them so much. She was also bit of an artist and made some beautiful paintings. Even in her last days, knowing she was facing death, she remained grateful for things like the beautiful view from her hospital room window and visits from friends and family. She had quiet faith at the end, assured that she'd be ok despite her predicament. She was a special person, excellent friend, even better mother and an amazing Grandmom. She will be missed so much. Richard "Mollie" Jacks, 86, of West Chester, PA, passed away on November 24, 2023, at the West Chester Rehab in West Chester, PA. He was born in Coatesville, PA, to the late Willie Jacks and Ruth Washington Jacks. He was a beloved husband of the late Patricia "Patty" Jacks for 60 years and was known for his cool, laid-back personality. Richard received his early education from Coatesville area public schools, including the historic James Adams School. In high school, he excelled in track & field. He subsequently graduated in 1955 from the S. Horace Scott Senior High School. He later worked as a caster at the former Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville for many years and was a union official of the Local 1165 Steelworker Union. Richard owned a garage on 7th Avenue where he worked as a mechanic. He was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in South Coatesville and was also a member of the Highway Cruisers Motorcycle Club. Richard had a passion for traveling, especially riding his Harley Davidson across the country. He enjoyed listening to jazz music and going to the Penn Relays every year. He often traveled across the country to California, Wyoming, and Texas. Richard was also known for making homemade ice cream, which brings back fond memories. His favorite show on TV was the Jerry Springer show, and he enjoyed traveling to New York to visit family. Richard will be deeply missed by his children, Ricky B. Jacks, Dennis Edward Jacks, Anthony Jacks, Stephanie Jacks, and Jay R. Jacks all of Coatesville; sister, Ruby Lopp of New York, Betty Jacks Eshun of Coatesville, Lauren Toppin of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Jacks.
