Bill was born on May 22, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence and Laura Brown. Marilyn Jane Jones

Marilyn Jane Jones, the daughter of Alfred and Leah (Krohn) Nielsen, was born on January 28, 1932, on a farm west of Webb, IA. She attended school at Cornell, Curlew and Sioux Rapids where she graduated in 1951. She was an outstanding athlete excelling at softball and basketball. After high school she graduated from the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha where she studied business and played basketball. She was employed at First State Bank in Sioux Rapids until starting her family. On June 7, 1959, Marilyn was united in marriage to Wendell Hugh Jones in Sioux Rapids, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed the Jones family farm north of Linn Grove, IA raising cattle, hogs, sheep and chickens. In addition, she gathered eggs by hand every day from 5,600 layer hens for twenty-two years until her retirement. She always had a huge garden and did a lot of canning and freezing. We especially loved her beet jelly. She was a member of the Royal United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for several years and a member of United Methodist Women. She was also a den mother for Cub Scouts and an election worker for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, reading, fishing, watching her kids’ and grandkids’ activities, watching sports, live and on tv, she was a big fan of girls’ basketball, and she especially loved woodworking and spending time with her family. Marilyn passed away on February 12, 2024 at Glen Oaks Care Center in Urbandale, IA at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell on May 8, 2015; her brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Maxine Nielsen; her infant sister, Eleanor Marie Nielsen; her brother-in-law, Bernard Jones; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Arla Gould. Left to cherish her memory are her son Craig (Kathy) Jones of Storm Lake, IA; her daughter, Carol Jones (Jim White) of Waukee, IA; 2 grandsons: Ben Jones of Royal, IA and Noah White of Waukee, IA; step-grandsons, Grant Gasner of Storm Lake, IA and Ethan Gasner of Storm Lake, IA; her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Marilyn Nielsen of Algona, IA; other relatives; and many friends.In lieu of flowers, please send condolences to:Marilyn Jones Memorialc/o Carol Jones164 SE Sloan Dr.Waukee, IA 50263

Sharon Marcene Garrington, daughter of John and Genelle (Morrow) Asmus, Step-mother, Goldie  Asmus, was born December 15, 1946 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life February 23, 2024, at Karen Acres Health Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa at 77 years of age.Sharon grew up in Osceola and graduated from Clarke Community High School.  She met her future husband William Dean Garrington of Chariton and they were married March 16, 1968 in Osceola, IA. They moved to Des Moines, IA where they continued to live on the South Side of Des Moines and raised their two sons, Todd and Thomas.  She attended Grandview Nursing School in Des Moines.Sharon was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Her family was her everything, she enjoyed attending all the activities of her boys and her grandsons. Bill and Sharon enjoyed camping and their pets and enjoyed any time the family was together. Sharon enjoyed reading and worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield Insurance in Des Moines before her retirement.Those relatives who preceded Sharon in death were her father, John Asmus, brother, Jim Asmus, husband Bill Garrington, and son, Thomas Eugene Garrington. Sharon leaves to cherish her memory; step-mother, Goldie A. Asmus of Osceola, IA, son, Todd (Shelley) Garrington of Waukee, IA, grandsons, Tanner Garrington, Trey Garrington, Tate Garrington, Adam Garrington and Matthew Garrington, brother, Robert (Peggy) Asmus of Osceola, IA, brother-in-law, John (Linda), brother-in-law Beryl Kyner, brother-in-law, David Mann, sister-in-law, Vicki Asmus as well as other relatives and many friends.Funeral Services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Wednesday, February 28 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Matthew Sanford officiating. Brian Edward Bartemes was born on January 28th, 1966 in the height of a snowstorm at the base of Big Tyler Mountain near Charleston, West Virginia to David and Cora Bartemes. He died on February 18th, 2024.He grew up in Charleston, WV and Pittsburgh, PA, moving to Urbandale in 1977 with his parents and two older brothers, Kevin and Paul. Brian attended Dowling Catholic High School where he met his wife, Maria Yorro, while singing in the choir. He graduated in 1984. Brian was deeply involved with the University of Northern Iowa Tae Kwon Do Club, where he became the first student to earn the position of Head Instructor after earning a third-degree black belt. He married the love of his life, Maria, on October 20, 1990. They had four extremely cool kids, probably the best people on Earth, for whom he was proud to be just “the Dad”.Brian worked most of his life as a social worker passionately working for individuals experiencing homelessness. A staunch supporter of housing as a human right, he worked for many years advocating for individuals who might not be able to advocate for themselves. Brian was an avid home cook and expressed his love for his family and friends with a plate full of Korean short ribs, whole smoked salmon, and roasted veggies. He especially loved to cook Filipino recipes gleaned over many years from Maria’s parents, Antonio and Rosa.Brian was preceded in death by his father, David Walter Bartemes, and survived by his loving wife Maria, four children, Theodore (Mary), Elena, Cecelia (Drew), and Joshua, his favorite grandkid James, his mother Cora, brothers Kevin and Paul (Kathy), as well as many nieces and nephews. Brian will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.Services will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday, February 23, 2024 with a visitation beginning at 10am, followed by Mass at 11am. The family will also welcome all to a luncheon immediately following the funeral Mass.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Central Iowa Shelter and Services or Primary Healthcare Homeless Support Services.

Cheryl Gilg, 61, of Urbandale, Iowa passed away February 18, 2024, as result of glioblastoma. She was born June 11, 1962, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Bruce and Marilyn (Zeckser) Strutzenberg. She lived her childhood years in several small towns in Iowa, including Garner and Eagle Grove. She received her degree as a registered nurse from the University of Iowa and master’s degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She spent her career as a nurse working in oncology, hospice, and home care. Cheryl married her husband, Joe, in 1990. Her daughter, Katie, was born in 1993 and her son, Brian, was born in 1994. Her grandson, Oliver, was born in 2022. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Cheryl enjoyed her volunteer work at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Urbandale Food Pantry. Over many years, she made over 10,000 stocking hats for non-profit organizations. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Joe Gilg; daughter, Katie Cannia (Joe); son, Brian Gilg; grandson, Oliver Cannia; brother, Dan Strutzenberg (Jann); brother, Jon Strutzenberg (Shaun); mother-in-law, Elaine Gilg; brother-in law, Bill Gilg (Sharon); sister-in-law, Patti Holmberg (Troy); sister-in-law, Susan Whited (Kevin); and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Strutzenberg; mother, Marilyn (Zeckser) Strutzenberg; father-in-law, Robert Gilg; grandparents: John and Ruth (Wilson) Strutzenberg and Albert and Rose (Black) Zeckser. A visitation will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale on the evening of Thursday, February 22, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Friday, February 23, at 11 am. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Suzanne “Suzie” Hamilton (Glenn), age 60, of Urbandale, died early Sunday morning, February 11th, 2024, at Methodist hospital, with family by her side, after ending her battle with cancer.She was born June 17th, 1963 in Des Moines to Jim and Deanna (Forret) Glenn. Suzie’s family lived in Adel, where she grew up and raised her three children.Suzie loved spending time with her family. Getting together for holidays, game nights, and swimming with her grandsons were some of her favorite things. When she wasn’t spending time with friends and family, Susie was often finding things to fix or build. Due to her stubborn demeanor, she was a DIY professional and took pride in being able to solve problems on her own- it was one of her many talents.Suzie was an extremely hard worker, never able to sit still for long, and through her life she worked many jobs, but prior to her passing she worked for a close friend doing cleaning and handy work, which she very much enjoyed. Most of all, Susie was a dear friend with a kind and caring heart. She will be deeply missed by all who knew herShe is preceded in death by her Father Jim Glenn. Stewart “Stew” LeBlanc, 80, of Eldridge, IA, passed away on February 14, 2024 at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Urbandale, IA. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no services or visitations will be held. Stew asks his loved ones to celebrate his life with fond personal memories. Stew was born on February 21, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to Ruth (Cavanagh) and George LeBlanc. Stew went on to join the US Navy in 1963 where he proudly served on the USS Barracuda Submarine. Following his service, he moved to Iowa to attend Parsons College. While there, he met and fell in love with Ute Rabong. In April of 1968, they joined each other in married union and would go on to spend over 55 years together. While attending Parsons, Stew also fell in love with the landscape of Iowa. He became an avid outdoorsmen. Stew especially enjoyed hunting upland birds with his beloved Gordon Setters, playing golf, and fishing for trout. For many years, he rode in Ragbrai where he made many memories and simply enjoyed the wind on his back. May the wind be at his back forevermore. Those left to carry on Stew’s love include his wife, Ute LeBlanc; daughter, Michelle (Steve Wiseman) LeBlanc; grandson, Grant Wiseman, and brother, Steve (Lynne) LeBlanc. Stew was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Larry LeBlanc.
