Richard Boyd Shaw

Mr. Richard Boyd Shaw or “Buddy” as he has been known since the age of six, resident of Wynne, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, February 19, 2024, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro at the age of 77. Buddy was born in Parkin on August 14, 1946, the son of Robert Boyd and Emma Esther (Smith) Shaw. Buddy was a 1964 graduate of West Memphis High School, and in August of the same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Buddy proudly served his country as an air traffic controller through the Vietnam War and the Cold War. Buddy was released from active duty in 1968, and on October 25, 1968, he married the former Sybil L. Stout. Buddy had a passion for air traffic controlling and continued the work with the Federal Aviation Administration in Jackson, Mississippi, Nashville, Tennessee, and Memphis, Tennessee until 1981. The couple and their family settled close to home and Buddy operated Wynne Tire Company for more than 30 years prior to his retirement in 2018. Buddy was a dedicated and active member of Colt Baptist Church where he participated in Men’s Ministries and taught Sunday School. He served as Sunday School director for several years as well. Buddy was an avid, hunter, fisherman, and gardener, and he enjoyed traveling. He was continually willing to assist those in need, and he will forever be remembered by his family as the greatest husband, daddy, and granddaddy. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny Shaw; and two sisters, Louise Wright and Doris Ann Blackford. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sybil Shaw of the home; two sons, Richard M. Shaw and wife, Faith, of Tumbling Shoals, and Robert “Bob” Shaw of Colt; a sister, Bobbie Russell of Paragould; three grandchildren, Justin and Trevor Shaw of Decatur, Alabama, and Katelyn Holland and husband, Dalton, of Wynne; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2024, in the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Wynne with Bro. Clint Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Justin Shaw, Trevor Shaw, Dalton Holland, Brian Stout, Mitchell Stout, and Wilburn Coleman. Honorary pallbearers are James Stout and the Men of Colt Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Colt Baptist Church, P.O. Box 283, Colt, AR 72326. Mary Ruth Scholes, 94, of Jonesboro, died Monday, February 19, 2024. She was born on February 3, 1930, in Conway, Arkansas to W.A. and Ada Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Vernon, Noel, Elmer, Garlon, A.W. Jr., and Samuel; Three sisters, Elsie Tucker, Edna Mae McGough and Ruby Thompson Norris, her husband, Carl for 61 years, and her only beloved son, Steven Carl Scholes.Survivors are daughter-in-law, Leslie of Long Beach California; two grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Rosie of Garden Grove, California; Ashlee and her husband, Jacob Enzensperger of Laguna Nigel, California; four great grandchildren, Madison and Connor Scholes, Tayler Henemyer and Terrah Enzenspenger of California. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a very important place in her life.She was married to Carl Scholes in Piggott, Arkansas, on July 3, 1949, after she graduated from high school there. As an Army wife, her first home was in Chicago, Illinois. When Carl went overseas, she came back to Piggott to live with her parents. When he returned, they moved to California where they lived until they retired.She served as church secretary in Redondo Beach, California, Torrance, California and Piggott Arkansas. She worked at South Bay Union High School District in Redondo Beach, as Account Clerk for Student Activities, Accounting Clerk in the District office in charge of certificated payroll for four schools, and secretary to Vice Principal at Mira Costa High School. In each of these positions she worked with many students who may not have graduated without her encouragement.She moved to Jonesboro in 1988, where eight of her family members were living. For several years, she was involved in family night at least once a week.She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro where she was active in all the activities of Women’s Missionary Fellowship and the Phebean Sunday School Class. She enjoyed serving as greeter welcoming those who came to church. She served as leader in bible Study Fellowship for a number of years. She was a faithful member of South Bay Baptist Church in Torrance, before moving to Jonesboro. She was Sunday School Superintendent, Women’s Missionary Fellowship President, choir member, and served on many committees. She always said her friends there were her extended family and kept in touch with many of them after moving to Arkansas.Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24,2024, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Ross Burton officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Hunter Allen, 28, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, February 11, 2024. He was a member of the Word Baptist Church of Jonesboro. He loved being outdoors spending time hunting and especially duck hunting. Hunter loved spending time with his family and friends. His children were his pride and joy. Hunter had a smile that could light up the room as soon as he entered and his laugh was so contagious. He is loved and will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Daisy Allen and grandfather, Marion Franklin Perrin. Born in Jonesboro on July 28, 1957, Kathy graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1975 and went on to a successful career in the financial industry.Kathy's passion for life shone brightest when she was surrounded by her family, as her greatest love was her grandchildren. Her days were sprinkled with joy as she spent time working in her yard tending to her beloved flowers and relaxing on the deck by the pool. In moments of leisure, she found solace in working on puzzles, a hobby that brought her peace and contentment.On August 22, 1998, Kathy found lasting happiness in marriage with her love, Phil, creating a bond cherished by both. Throughout her years, she remained dedicated to her work at Cadence Bank, where she thrived in her role as General Sales Manager, her passion and dedication evident to all who knew her.Kathy leaves behind her daughter, Stacy (Charles) Slaughter; granddaughter, Mollybeth Drew; grandson, Carson Slaughter; and mother, Barbara Brumley. She was preceded in death by her father, Milton Brumley, and husband, Phil Brumett.Kathy's life will be celebrated on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11 AM at Heath Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Brumley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 AM.
