Corsicana, TX
Wayne Earl Richards passed from this life on Sunday, May 23, 2023, in Corsicana, Texas. He was born, January 18, 1933, in Barry, Texas near the old community of Pinkston, Texas. He graduated from Blooming grove High School in 1951 where he was quite the athlete. He was voted most athletic in 1951 in which he had a part in helping the Lions capture district titles in football, basketball, and volleyball. After high school he accepted a scholarship to Navarro Junior College in football and track in which he lettered in both years. Wayne was drafted into the US Army during his second year at Navarro and spent most of his time in Columbus, Georgia. During his time in the Army at Georgia, Wayne met and married his wife Thelma Price from the next door state of Alabama. They were married for 54 years and raised four children. After spending a few years in Georgia for his Army stint, Wayne returned to Texas and settled in Dallas, eventually residing in the Blooming Grove area near his parents. He was employed with Merchants Freight Lines for numerous years where he received several safe driving awards. After a few years of retirement, Wayne became somewhat bored and decided he needed a part time job. That part time job turned into 10 years plus service at the CISD bus barn where he ran a bus route for special needs children and drove many classes of different age groups to field trips and sporting events which he thoroughly enjoyed. After retiring once again he remained active through Meals on Wheels and supporting his church, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Lord's Acre, up until his passing. Wayne was still quite the sports fan and truly loved a good game of dominoes along with his love of reading his Bible. His work ethics and love for his fellow man will be greatly missed. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, W. J. and Pink Marie Richards, wife, Thelma Price Richards, daughter, Charlotte Armstrong, and grandson, Jordan David Richards. Survivors include his children; Denise Blase and husband Gary, David Richards and wife Donna, and Randy Richards and wife Kim; brother, Wendell "Peb" Richards and wife Diane; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in the Dresden Cemetery at a later date.
