GORMAN, Wanda Lou, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023, in her Kettering, Ohio residence at the age of 84. She was born on November 27, 1938, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, to Lawrence and Jane Pollard. Wanda lived a fulfilling life dedicated to her family and her home. As a devoted homemaker, she lovingly cared for her two sons, Ricky and Bobby, instilling in them the values of love, compassion, and resilience. Wanda's warm smile, infectious laughter, and nurturing presence were constants in the lives of her loved ones. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as tending to her beautiful flower beds and exploring the world through her many travels, particularly her cherished trips to Hawaii and San Francisco. Wanda took great pride in her appearance, always ensuring her hair was impeccably styled every Thursday. Wanda's gentle spirit and unwavering love will forever be remembered by her surviving sons, Ricky (Pam) Kimmey and Bobby (Renita) Kimmey. She was a devoted sister to Mary Jane (Carlton) Curie, Jack (Millie) Pollard, and Dick (Diana) Pollard. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gorman, her parents, Lawrence and Jane Pollard, and her sister, Lila Pollard. Wanda's legacy extends to the numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed to have her as a constant source of love and guidance. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Wanda's remarkable life. At a service to be held at David's Cemetery mausoleum Wednesday October 18th, 2023 at 11 am, with visitation thirty minutes prior. As we mourn the loss of Wanda Lou Gorman, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived, the love she shared, and the memories she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in our cherished recollections of her vibrant spirit. MURPHY, Shirley Ann, age 89 of Kettering, OH passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. She was born on March 18, 1934 to Charles and Zilke Lee (Hensley) Howard. Shirley graduated from Roosevelt High School and earned an Associates Degree from Sinclair Community College. Shirley had a career that she loved as the Marketing Director for Unibuilt Industries for over 30 years. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Ted E. Murphy Sr. of Dayton, Ohio. Shirley will be remembered as someone who always had a positive perspective on life, brought joy to everyone around her and adored her family. She was exceptionally kind and generous before becoming a talking-point of many of today’s conversations. She sought out the good in people and all situations. Shirley was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her son’s (Tim) children, her two grandchildren, Taylor (Dan) Cline and Evan (Heather) Murphy were the light of her life. She never missed one of their games, took them to every sporting event that she could and spirited them away on many vacations. She also adored her young great grandchildren, Carter and Conrad Cline and Miles Murphy. Shirley’s love for her family was endless, she was the inspiration, rock, and a perfect example of unconditional love to her two surviving sons, Ted E. Murphy Jr and Tim Murphy. Shirley was unique in that she was also a caring and loving mother-in-law to Dana (Tim) Murphy. And she was exceptional to extended family members including Krista and Cassandra and sisters-in-laws Joyce Howard, Shirley Snipes and Kathy Dalton. Shirley was a member of the Church of the Cross United Methodist Church and enjoyed all sports of any kind (NFL, NBA, MLB and more). She was an active member of the Dayton Advertising Club for decades. Shirley enjoyed traveling, mostly to warmer climates like Hawaii, Florida and Las Vegas. Private family services only. Ann Lewis

Age - 95

Born a proud Hoosier, but an equally proud Buckeye, Ann Hodson Lewis passed away peacefully on November 25 at the age of 95. A midwesterner through and through, she was the third child of Glea and "Doc" Hodson, born in a farmhouse outside of Amboy, Indiana, on January 21, 1928. She grew up in Peru, Indiana, and graduated with a degree in nursing from Indiana University. Even when the rest of her family headed west to California, she chose to stay where her roots were. Her husband of 63 years, Dr. W. J. (Jack) Lewis, who passed away in 2014, might have had something to do with that decision. He was finishing up medical school while she was earning her nursing degree when they met. They married between semesters on February 3, 1951, spent his residency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, (where she worked in the hospital’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit), and moved to Dayton in 1952 for his career in Family Medicine. One year later, Ann, Jack, and their newborn son moved to Van Buren Township (which would become the city of Kettering). As a newly-minted suburban homemaker, she was in her element. Three daughters followed in quick succession, and Ann reveled in taking care of her growing family. The Lewis house was always filled with kids from the neighborhood and various schools the kids attended. Ann was a second mom to many of her kids’ friends. She delighted in their accomplishments and in their families, and was always interested in their lives. Ann and Jack joined the brand-new Christ Methodist Church (later Christ UMC). Almost 70 years later, she was still attending services on Shroyer Road. She made lifelong friends working in the church nursery on Sundays for 25 years, as a communion steward, as a member of the ladies’ "Circles," and as a volunteer at the church bazaars. Ann became the chief chauffeur and a cheerleader at all the kids’ activities. She was actively involved in the PTA, volunteered as a school nurse, and was a yearly room mother. As Jack became more involved in the American Medical Association, he soon recognized that his most valuable asset at meetings was Ann. She made everyone she talked with feel at ease (and they all loved the chocolate buckeyes she sent out at Christmas each year). She was also an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Montgomery County Medical Society. Ann was a prolific seamstress and knitter. Her grandchildren all received handmade baby blankets at birth and full-sized blankets years later that featured their college colors. She was a passionate fan of the Cincinnati Reds (Joe Morgan was her favorite player), the UD Flyers, and the OSU Buckeyes. Ann and Jack were part of a unique group of friends from DePauw University who vacationed together every year in northern Michigan starting in 1949. One of her greatest delights was getting to spend retirement years in the family cottage with her friends’ cottages next door. That tradition continues to this day with four generations gathering together each summer. Ann and Jack were also part of a Diners’ Club that was made up of five couples who met for dinner once a month for over 30 years and became lifelong friends. Ann is survived by her children: Bill (Susan), Kathy Dierkes (Joe), Megan Haddox (Craig), and Jill; seven grandchildren: Jackie Cox (Michael), Courtney Brinkman (Matt), Katie Dierkes, Evan Pierce, Carrie Dierkes, John Lewis (Alex), and Mary Dierkes; seven great-grandchildren: Livie Cox, John Brinkman, Jack Lewis, Addie Grace Cox, Emily Brinkman, Caroline Brinkman, and Hope Lewis; sister-in-law, Marge Hodson; and a host of nieces and nephews who are related by blood or by friendship. We will all miss her beyond measure. The family thanks the staff of Bethany Village and Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for their kind care of our mom. Michael "Mike" Francis Farmer, age 70, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away on November 13, 2023. He was born on December 13, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Frank J. and Virginia C. Farmer. Mike is survived by his daughters Amanda (Robert) Elliott and Sarah (Tad) Burchett; sister Deborah DeCurtins; grandchildren Ava and Isaiah Elliott; step grandchildren Dalton Burchett and Darian Wagner; four great grandchildren; Aunt Helen Miltner; niece Abbey DeCurtins and nephew Zack DeCurtins; numerous cousins, and close friends. Mike was a proud graduate of Archbishop Alter High School, class of 1971, where he made some of his best memories on the football field. Over the years, he enjoyed attending class reunions and could often be seen in the stands supporting the Knights during football season. He attended the University of Cincinnati, where he also played football. Mike worked in construction as a home builder and contractor for over 35 years in the Dayton area. He spent the last ten years overseeing the Centerville Rod and Reel Club. Mike had many friends whom he enjoyed conversing and reminiscing with. He loved, and was loved. Mike will be dearly missed, but will continue to live on through the hearts and memories shared by those who knew him. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Centerville, with a luncheon to follow.Show more

"Karol A. Morrow (a/k/a "Karol with a K like the Pope") passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27th with her beloved husband Jeff by her side. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Karol was the first-born girl of the Klawon family and named by her father, as was the deal with her mother if they got a baby girl this time. Karol graduated from Stebbins High School and was profoundly talented in the arts, receiving best in show awards and scholarship opportunities for her work in ceramics. She later pursued a career in the automotive industry, breaking glass ceilings in the 80's with shoulder pads and creative genius. During her 25 years with Reynolds and Reynolds, Karol rose to manage their corporate training, demonstrating a dedication known to few and serving as a mentor to many. She took charge and hoped for forgiveness later. Her years at Kroger corporate rounded out her career. Karol was color and light and energy in a room and transformed the average to extraordinary. Whether a coworker that walked into a cafeteria turned Christmas Victorian village, a friend that loved knowing she was ALL IN with the party theme and the conversation, a sibling that inevitably ended the night in hysterics from a story, game or a pie in the face, nieces and nephews that always performed just perfect in her eyes in her zany basement Christmas productions, a daughter that waited until too late the night before it was due to tell her that a musical instrument needed to be created and woke up to a beautifully strung "guitar" of cardboard and rubber bands, a husband that never knew what part of the house would be completely updated when he arrived home from President Club, a grandson that had an adventure book written for him based on birds the two just met at the arboretum, you felt her magic that was abundant and no words will ever be enough to describe her. Karol is preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Mariann Klawon and brothers Timothy, Daniel and Kelly (Heidi) Klawon. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey, daughter Emily Tapp, grandson Alexander Tapp-Wampler, stepson Matthew Morrow, brother Joseph (Catherine) Klawon, sister Maggie (Eric) Schneemann, nieces and nephews Wendy Klawon, Adam (Karlee) Klawon, Tim (Stephanie) Schneemann, Jeni (Drew) Berreth, Mark (Karlee) Schneemann, and eight great nieces and nephews that she would have loved to spend so much more time with. Richard Willard Donovan, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. He passed away peacefully at Kingston of Miamisburg after battling Dementia. Richard was born on January 4, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio the son of Willard and Eleanor Donovan. He is preceded in death by his father, Willard Donovan; son, Douglas Donovan; sister, Monica Donovan; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Bennett. Richard is survived by mother, Eleanor Donovan; beloved wife, Miriam Donovan; daughter, Holly Cansler; son, Tyler (Andrea) Donovan; grandson, Dustin Sabins; two granddaughters, Brooke Donovan and Cassandra Donovan; two sisters, Christina (Ron) Meyer and Lisa (David) Fitzharris; three brothers, Michael Bennett, Kirby (Rose) Donovan, Scott Donovan; and cousin, Pam Sherer. In Loving Memory of Kevin Kelly FredKevin Kelly Fred, a beloved member of the Kettering community, passed away at the age of 63 on November 9, 2023. Born on March 27, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, Kevin was a charismatic and kind-hearted soul who touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Kevin grew up in Kettering, Ohio, and attended Fairmont West HS, graduating in the class of 1978; Wright State, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Communication and graduating in 1989; and Central Michigan University, earning a Master's Degree in Science Administration and graduating in 1995. Throughout his life, he pursued a career in cybersecurity and established himself as a skilled contractor in the industry. Outside of work, Kevin had an unwavering love for golf. He found great joy and relaxation on the greens, particularly at his favorite course, Hills and Dales. Kevin also had a passion for restoring old cars. He could often be found tinkering away in his garage, working on his latest project. Additionally, Kevin had a deep affinity for Triumph motorcycles and enjoyed exploring the open road on two wheels. Kevin served in the United States Air Force as a communications specialist for four years, He had a profound sense of patriotism and a strong belief in "American Made. " Being proud of his service to his country, he continued to support fellow veterans throughout his life. Above all else, Kevin's greatest joy came from his family. He will be forever remembered as a devoted father to his two sons, Tyler and Alex. Kevin's love for his children knew no bounds, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His impact on their lives will be felt for generations to come. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially his dogs, Oreo and Pups, who were more than just pets - they were cherished members of his family. Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvan and Patricia Fred, and his beloved dog Oreo. He is survived by his sons, Alexander and Tyler (Macy Harris) Fred; siblings, Philip (Sandy) Fred, L. B. Alan Kent Robinson, affectionately known as Kent, passed away on November 13, 2023 in Kettering, Ohio after a long illness. Born on March 24, 1941, in Springfield, Ohio, he was the loving son of the late Renald and Dortha (Mason) Robinson. Kent was a man of tremendous accomplishments and passions. Education played a significant role in his life; he earned an undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University where he not only excelled academically but also shone on the football field and track. Continuing his educational journey, Kent earned a Master's Degree in Science from Wright State University. Throughout his illustrious career as an educator, he devoted over 40 years to shaping the minds of young individuals. 24 of those remarkable years were spent at Greenon High School. Kent went beyond being just a teacher; he wore various hats throughout his tenure—coaching football, track, and girls basketball. He umpired softball games and took charge as a referee for women's basketball and football matches. Beyond the realm of athletics, Kent had a deep-rooted interest for geology. When he wasn't exploring geology or coaching sports, you could find Kent honing his swing on the golf course. But Kent's sense of adventure didn't stop at geology and golf. He was also an avid roller coaster addict. Kent was also a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. Above all else, family meant everything to Kent. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Gayle Robinson, children, Kara L. (Bennett Crook) Robinson, Kyle (Debbie) Robinson, and Kirk Robinson, grandchildren, Max Crook, Kylie Robinson, and Daniel Robinson, sister, Marsha Snyder, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. BENHAM, Linda, age 76, of Kettering, OH passed away peacefully at her home after a long battle with dementia on November 2, 2023. She was comforted by the love of family and friends in her final days who shared appreciation for her indominable spirit, loving humor and service heart that touched many in her time. Linda was born on July 11, 1947, to the late Delmar E. and Jean B. (Kirkwood) Barrere. She grew up in an active home with seven siblings, where she cared for many as one of the oldest big sisters. Growing up, Linda often talked about enjoying trips to Chicago to visit her grandparents and the magical Christmas cookie table her beloved Mother set-out every year-a love of sweets and special treats she passed on to her family. Linda was a serious student and very intelligent. She graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1965. Linda had a strong work ethic throughout her life and began her career at Emery Air Freight. It was in this role that she first met and was pursued by a charming red head named Lamon. He brought a dozen red roses to her parent's home after having devised a clever plan to find out the name and address of the girl that immediately stole his heart. She was said to have responded that he was crazy and fell madly into the young love that turned into 56 years of devotion and memories together. Linda retired from Kettering City Schools in 2014, where she served as a Parent Mentor, supporting families and teachers in their service of students with special needs. Throughout her career she was a passionate champion for children with disabilities and a highly respected advocate in the special education community. In 1976, Linda co-founded the Dayton Area Citizens Committee for Special Education and led the organization, growing from a dedicated volunteer group to a grant funded professional services association impacting hundreds of families. It was in her role as a mother and grandmother that Linda found her deepest pride and joy. She raised her children with love, fun, and creativity and instilled in them by her example the values of family, respect, and kindness. As a grandmother, Linda became a co-conspirator in creating magical memories. She made a point to encourage each grandchild, ensuring they knew they could accomplish anything and making them all feel like they were her favorite. Throughout her life, Linda was an avid reader and inspired curiosity and appreciation for books in the family. She loved nurturing flowers and plants, and for many years cultivated a bountiful vegetable garden for the children growing up. Linda's deep appreciation for family and history left a legacy of extensive genealogy research that she and Lamon built upon through travel and many visits to appreciate family cemetery memorials and libraries. Many will remember that Linda created a welcoming home and heart for all. She and Lamon hosted a much-loved summer Luau celebration for family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers over the years. Linda had a gift for making everyone feel loved and accepted. People of all ages turned to Linda both professionally and personally over the years for her judgement free listening and gentle advice. She could be counted on for her empathy and humor touched brand of comfort, encouragement, acceptance, and connection. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Carol Eckley and Debra Walters; brothers, Boyd and John Barrere. Survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lamon H. Benham; sons, Michael (Barbara) and Jason (Karen) Benham; daughter, Kimberly Benham; grandchildren, Megan, Nathan, Lydia, Katherine and Grant; sisters, Beverly Crowder and Regina (Lee Roy) Spencer; brother, Dennis (Gerry) Barrere; brother-in-law, Randy Walters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
