Walter "Grant" Robinson III passed away Sunday September 3rd, 2023. Grant was born in Elyria, OH but was raised on Maple St as an Oberlin resident, which he was passionate about. While working at Tyson Foods in Amherst, OH as a tow motor driver Grant suffered a tragic accident at home that resulted in him living at the Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. Grant was a beautiful, outgoing, outspoken force who touched many lives. Grant leaves to cherish his memory his father Walter G Robinson Jr (Tiny) of Oberlin, his daughter Emery Robinson of Lima, OH, brother Mark Robinson (Chelonn) of Elyria, OH, sister Kristin "Krissi" Robinson Wooten and Tracey Robinson (Ashley) of Lorain, OH his nephews Mark Jr, MarSaun, Omarion and nieces Mar'Che and Rayne Robinson and a host of brothers, sisters, a son, and daughters he held in his heart. Grant was preceded in death by his mother Germaine Hall December 25th, 2010, and a great number of other relatives. A small private memorial will be held at Carter Funeral Home in Elyria, OH with a repast to follow at Russia Township. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Carter Funeral Home Inc.

Crystal L. Gates passed away quietly on Saturday, December 2, 2023, following a short illness. Crystal was born September 18, 1972, in Medina, Ohio to Jerry and Cinda Gates. She graduated from Midview High School in Grafton as part of the class of 1991. She attended vocational classes for medical transcription. Crystal worked as a server at Sugar Creek Restaurant for many years. She also had jobs at Taco Bell and Walmart as well. Crystal was an active member of the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene in Elyria where she worked in the nursery, at VBS and on the missions council. As the youngest of five children, she learned the importance of family. That love continued with her family. She was preceded in death by her mother Cindy Gates, grandparents Wilma and Melvin Gates and Patricia and Harold Gift. She is survived by her father Jerry Sr. ; siblings Jeannette and Julie Gates and Cathy (William) Hering of Grafton, and Jerry (Kellie) Gates of Tupelo, MS. , nieces and nephews; Tiffany (Kevin) Stewert, Cody (Hailey) Gates, Jerrid Hering, Brody (Samantha) Kaufman, Alicia (Daniel) Olson, Hardy McKnight, and Charnelia Gates, and; great nieces and nephews, Allen, Elijah, Natalee, Scarlet, Flynn, Ezra and Spencer; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and adopted family. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, December 8, 2022, at the Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, at noon. Rev. Scott Eastburn will officiate. Friends may call beginning at 11 am until service time at 1107 Clemens Ave. Elyria. A family service will be at Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Grafton, Ohio at a later date. Betty Lou Janowicz (nee Baum), 88, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on December 1, 2023, in Plain City, OH, at the home of her daughter. She was born on October 1, 1935, in New London, OH, to the late Alice and Erwin (Curley) Baum. Betty was a loving mother, devoted wife, a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She was known for her sweet and light-hearted nature, as well as her charitable and generous spirit. Betty took great pride in her family and cherished spending time with them. She was particularly sentimental about her loved ones. Betty is survived by her son, Andy Janowicz (Janie Gentry Bates); daughters, Janine Janowicz Glomb (Dan), Paula Janowicz Berry (Doug Bidwell), Sarah Janowicz Long (Randy), and Anna Janowicz; three grandchildren, Phil, Katie, and Braden; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emma, and James; numerous nieces and nephews; and her brother, Floyd Baum (Beverly). She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Henry (Hank) Janowicz; parents, Alice and Erwin (Curley) Baum; and sister, Joanne Pais. Early in her career, Betty worked for The Chronicle Telegram in Elyria, and later became a dedicated stay-at-home mom. She later worked at Botamer Florist and at the office of Dr. John Secrist. Betty was a sacristan and caretaker at Holy Cross Church for many years. She was an active member of the church community and worshiped at Holy Cross Church, followed by St. Agnes Church. Betty had a variety of hobbies, including traveling with her family, visiting her children, singing in the choir, and caring for her many beautiful plants. She definitely had a soft spot for her kitties over the years, loving, doting on and caring for her fur babies. Betty loved completing jigsaw puzzles with Hank and her family, often framing and hanging them for everyone to enjoy. She dedicated over 2500 volunteer hours at University Hospital Elyria and served as the Chairwoman for many decades for the Elyria High School Class of 1953 Reunion Committee. Betty was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Baum Family Reunion for decades. She held the position of Elyria Catholic Guild president and was a member of the United Polish Club Ladies' Auxiliary. On the morning of November 27, 2023, Leo Gale Schnell, 94, died at St. John's, Westlake Ohio. He was born February 1, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Walter and Ethel (Drew) Schnell. Leo completed studies in the automotive industry at Max Hayes Technical School. He entered the Army soon after and ended his service as a tank instructor. After the Army, Leo worked in the automotive field and later started his own business under Texaco and Gulf service stations. Leo was an expert in this field and built a great following of loyal customers for over 45 years in business. In 1954 Leo married the love of his life Marion Jane Bartel on May 1st. Together they raised 9 children; Gail, Theresa, Tom, Marion, Jeanne, Patty, Bill, Tim and Chris. Leo and Marion were married for 53 years until Marion's death in 2011. They were blessed with 26 grandchildren: Christina, Nicholas, Becky, Todd, Lindsey, Brian, Randy, Ryan, Jenna, Jessica, Tommy, Jacob, Connor, Samantha, Anastasia, Emily, Dan, Greg, Michael, Cory, Jeremy, Noelle, Bryce, Abriella, Nicole and Rachel. Additionally, they were blessed with 35 great grandchildren: Gavyn, Dino, Lillianna, Anthony, Kennedy, Caden, Isla, Christian, Sadia, Soleil, Joycelyn, Logan, Kolton, Nolan, Sydney, Mariah, Grace, Willow, Tyler, Jaeda, Benjamin, Aiden, Clara, Wayne, Alyson, Karline, Amari, Jaxxon, Lucy, Audrey, Colson, Annika, Johana, Lowen, Miles Patrick and one great, great grandchild, Roselyn. In his retirement he enjoyed baking and was fabulous at it. He was the talk of the party for all his delightful treats. Always creating everything from scratch, and often from memory. Cookies, chocolate chip banana bread, 3-C bread, carrot cake and monkey bread were just a few of the family favorites. Leo also enjoyed taking videos of all the family events and get-togethers, he never went without his camera. From vacations with Marion, to all the kids growing up, weddings, new homes, and all the family gatherings in between he was sure to capture it all. Copies of all events were in his kids' hands or the mail by the next day. Never allowing anyone to feel left out. Leo loved Christmas, he used his woodworking skills and cheerful spirit to make beautiful decorations and play Santa for the grandchildren over the years. In more recent years, he enjoyed making puzzles, many of them also Christmas themed. he would frame them to hang on countless walls in every family member's home. In addition to his parents, Leo is predeceased by his wife Marion, brother Bob, and granddaughter Jenna. Surviving are his daughter Gail and her husband Ray Avsec of Fort Pierce, Florida, daughter Theresa D'Amico and Gene Wadkins of Davenport, Florida, son Tom and his wife Nancy of Cave Creek, Arizona, daughter Marion and her husband Larry Kopper, daughter Jeanne and her husband Ric Porvasnik, daughter Patty and her husband Ken Whitehill, son Bill and his wife Karen, son Tim and his wife Deb, and son Chris and his wife Shelly. Surviving sister Marilyn and her husband George Petkac, brother Ken and his wife Marianne Schnell, and sister Linda Schnell - all residing in greater Cleveland area. Leo was a man of great legacy of which he leaves behind here on earth. His family, many nieces and nephews and his friends, will miss him dearly. He rejoices in joining his wife Marion, of whom he missed tremendously, all his family and friends, who proceeded him in death. Born in Amherst, Ohio, on March 18, 1949, Gerrye's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and enduring connections. Gerrye was the beloved oldest sister to Mike, Rhonda, Skip, and Dale. She is preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Gerald, younger sister Rhonda and her beloved pit bull, Baby, who was fiercely protective of her. For 52 years, Gerrye shared a remarkable journey with her husband Allen. Trixie, her sweet dog, added warmth and joy to their shared life. A devoted mother to Jennifer, Heather, and Andrew, and a loving grandmother to Calliope, Ethan, and Corbijn, Gerrye's family was the heartbeat of her life. Gerrye's amiable and chatty personality endeared her to all who crossed her path. Known for running into familiar faces all over town, she made connections that spanned a lifetime. An avid reader and collector of fiesta ware, Gerrye found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She perfected the family's no-bake oatmeal cookie recipe, creating a sweet tradition for her loved ones. As a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for decades, Gerrye built lasting friendships that enriched her life. Her dedication extended beyond social bonds, as she served as an expert swim and CPR instructor at the Elyria YMCA, leaving an indelible mark on the countless children she taught. As we bid farewell to Gerrye, let us remember the love and lessons she shared. May she rest in peace, her memory cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
