Leo Schnell

On the morning of November 27, 2023, Leo Gale Schnell, 94, died at St. John's, Westlake Ohio. He was born February 1, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Walter and Ethel (Drew) Schnell. Leo completed studies in the automotive industry at Max Hayes Technical School. He entered the Army soon after and ended his service as a tank instructor. After the Army, Leo worked in the automotive field and later started his own business under Texaco and Gulf service stations. Leo was an expert in this field and built a great following of loyal customers for over 45 years in business. In 1954 Leo married the love of his life Marion Jane Bartel on May 1st. Together they raised 9 children; Gail, Theresa, Tom, Marion, Jeanne, Patty, Bill, Tim and Chris. Leo and Marion were married for 53 years until Marion's death in 2011. They were blessed with 26 grandchildren: Christina, Nicholas, Becky, Todd, Lindsey, Brian, Randy, Ryan, Jenna, Jessica, Tommy, Jacob, Connor, Samantha, Anastasia, Emily, Dan, Greg, Michael, Cory, Jeremy, Noelle, Bryce, Abriella, Nicole and Rachel. Additionally, they were blessed with 35 great grandchildren: Gavyn, Dino, Lillianna, Anthony, Kennedy, Caden, Isla, Christian, Sadia, Soleil, Joycelyn, Logan, Kolton, Nolan, Sydney, Mariah, Grace, Willow, Tyler, Jaeda, Benjamin, Aiden, Clara, Wayne, Alyson, Karline, Amari, Jaxxon, Lucy, Audrey, Colson, Annika, Johana, Lowen, Miles Patrick and one great, great grandchild, Roselyn. In his retirement he enjoyed baking and was fabulous at it. He was the talk of the party for all his delightful treats. Always creating everything from scratch, and often from memory. Cookies, chocolate chip banana bread, 3-C bread, carrot cake and monkey bread were just a few of the family favorites. Leo also enjoyed taking videos of all the family events and get-togethers, he never went without his camera. From vacations with Marion, to all the kids growing up, weddings, new homes, and all the family gatherings in between he was sure to capture it all. Copies of all events were in his kids' hands or the mail by the next day. Never allowing anyone to feel left out. Leo loved Christmas, he used his woodworking skills and cheerful spirit to make beautiful decorations and play Santa for the grandchildren over the years. In more recent years, he enjoyed making puzzles, many of them also Christmas themed. he would frame them to hang on countless walls in every family member's home. In addition to his parents, Leo is predeceased by his wife Marion, brother Bob, and granddaughter Jenna. Surviving are his daughter Gail and her husband Ray Avsec of Fort Pierce, Florida, daughter Theresa D'Amico and Gene Wadkins of Davenport, Florida, son Tom and his wife Nancy of Cave Creek, Arizona, daughter Marion and her husband Larry Kopper, daughter Jeanne and her husband Ric Porvasnik, daughter Patty and her husband Ken Whitehill, son Bill and his wife Karen, son Tim and his wife Deb, and son Chris and his wife Shelly. Surviving sister Marilyn and her husband George Petkac, brother Ken and his wife Marianne Schnell, and sister Linda Schnell - all residing in greater Cleveland area. Leo was a man of great legacy of which he leaves behind here on earth. His family, many nieces and nephews and his friends, will miss him dearly. He rejoices in joining his wife Marion, of whom he missed tremendously, all his family and friends, who proceeded him in death. Visitation will be at the BUSCH FUNERAL HOME, 7501 Ridge Road, Parma on Friday, December 8 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm.
