Walter J. Reese, age 81, of West Bay Shore, New York (formerly of West Babylon) passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023. He was born to Walter and Rosana Reese on October 2, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. Walter was raised in Elmont, New York and is a graduate of Sewanhaka High School. He then attended Syracuse University where he earned a degree in History. At Syracuse, Walter played on the lacrosse team and was elected the team's 1964 MVP. As an educator and a coach, he had an illustrious career at Copiague Schools where he was an American History Teacher for 32 years. Walter was the head coach of both the football and lacrosse teams at Copiague High School. He was the most successful football coach in the school's history leading the team to two Rutgers Cup Championships in 1976 and 1981, as well as league championships in 1977 and 1990. He was named Coach of the Year by the Suffolk County Coaches Association, the New York Daily News and Newsday in 1976 and 1981 and elected League Coach of the Year in 1976, 1977, 1981 and 1990. Walter started Copiague's lacrosse program in 1970. As Head Coach, he led the lacrosse team to league championships in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1978. He was awarded Coach of the Year by the Suffolk County Lacrosse Association in 1976, League Coach of the Year in 1978 and Suffolk County Man of the Year in 1986. Walter is one of the few members of the 100-win USLCA Century Club. He also coached the Long Island Regional Team in New York State's Empire State Games leading the team to its first gold medal in 1985 as head coach. To thank Walter for his years of success and service, the Copiague School System named its Football/Lacrosse Stadium after him in 2004. Walter is survived by and was a beloved husband of 58 years to his wife, Marian as well as a devoted father to his sons, Jason (Christine) and Jonathan (Barbara). He was a loving grandfather of Jonathan, Christopher, Brooke, Katelyn, Bryant, and Bridget. Brother of Ken, Dick, Karen, Arlene and the late Harry and Ron, and loved by many nephews and their families. He took pride in that both of his sons and five of his grandchildren attended Yale University. In addition to teaching and coaching Walter enjoyed spending time with family and friends and playing a friendly round of golf as often as he could. Edward George Flieger, 78, of West Babylon, NY, passed away on November 14, 2023 after a prolonged illness. He was born on January 17, 1945 in Jamaica Queens, NY, to the late Edward C. Flieger and Dorothy (nee Law). Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Beverly (nee Ekstrom), their children Jackie (Tommy), Derek and Sharon Beatty (Sean), and his cherished grandchildren Brandon, Jake, Jeremy, Kayla, Emma and Finn. He is also survived by his siblings: twin brother Robert, Patricia Martini (John), Mary Howe (Tom), Nicholas (Annette) and Lorraine Rios (Nestor). Ed was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Gerard and beloved son Jerry. Ed was an extraordinary individual who had a long career in two different industries. He worked 19 years as a Cargo Manager for TWA. Then began a 25 year career for UL LLC as Plants & Facilities manager retiring in 2012. He had a reputation for always going above and beyond, having a great sense of humor and friends to many. Ed served his country with honor and dedication in the United States Navy from 1965-67 assigned in Point Mugu, CA. Edward G. Flieger will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His integrity, willingness to always help anyone who needed it and love for his family, affectionately known as "Geicko" will long be remembered. Kenneth Bonavoglia, a beloved member of West Babylon, New York, passed away on October 27, 2023. Born on May 6, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, to Genario and Anna Bonavoglia. Kenneth completed his education with a high school diploma and went on to pursue his passion for plumbing. Kenneth was known for his career as a plumber in the Local 001 Union - Long Island City, New York. He dedicated himself to his profession, diligently serving the community with expertise and commitment. Outside of work, Kenneth found immense fulfillment in spending time with his wife Catherine (Nee: Iacona) Bonavoglia, their daughters AnnMarie (Mark) Wroblewski, Christine (Edward) Grunwald, and Lauren (Christopher) Jacobi, as well as their grandchildren Andrew (Emily), Amanda, Jessica, Raegan, and Rylie. Family was at the center of Kenneth's world, and he cherished every moment shared with them. Kenneth was a man of many endearing qualities. Known for his sense of humor, he had an innate ability to make others laugh and bring joy to any situation. His warmth and wit endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In honor of Kenneth's remarkable life, funeral services will be held at Deer Park - Mangano Family Funeral Home located at 1701 Deer Pk Ave in Deer Park, New York. The visitation is scheduled on October 31st from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. These services provide an opportunity for family members and friends to pay their respects and celebrate the memories they shared with Kenneth.
