With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Eddie Lee Witherspoon, Columbia, SC formerly of Gadsden, AL, who traded time for eternity on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the age of 88. Sergeant Major Eddie L. Witherspoon Sr. , US Army, Retired, was born on May 26, 1935, in Demopolis, Alabama to the parentage of the late George Witherspoon and Louise Mostiller. His faith and confession in Christ began in his youth in Demopolis and continued with him being an active member and Deacon at First Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama City. He established a mentorship group called the Moses Project because he believed in mentoring the youth of today. Especially young men who seemed troubled and going down the wrong path in life. Spoon as he was called by his friends received his formal education in the Alabama public school system. He graduated from Carver High School in Attalla, AL. Upon graduation, Spoon joined the United States Army where he served honorably for 25 plus years. He retired from the Army with the rank of Sergeant Major. After retirement from the Army, Spoon was employed as a District Manager for Reynolds Aluminum Recycling in Columbia, SC. He moved to Macon, Ga. , and was employed as a semi-trailer truck driver. An avid sports fan, the Atlanta Braves was his favorite baseball team and the Auburn Tigers his favorite college football team. Spoon was a loving and devoted family man. He will be sorely missed and will always hold a special place in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know and love him.
