Sylvia Penelope Rowland, known affectionately as Penny, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2023, at 85. She was born in Wadesboro, NC, and her journey was marked by love, kindness, and a profound devotion to family. Those left to cherish the memories of Penny are her son and daughter-in-law, Frank "Dale" and Deborah Rowland of Burke, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Perry Johnson of Clover, South Carolina; sister, Charlain Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Chris Johnson and wife Tiffany, Ethan Johnson and Amber Rowland. She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Elizabeth Rowland. Her great-grandchildren include Ellie, Elijah, and Savannah Johnson. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rowland, who passed away in 2017. Though physically separated, their enduring love and the memories they created together remain etched in the hearts of those who knew them. Born in a small town, Penny's formal education reached the 11th grade, but her life experiences and wisdom far surpassed any academic measure. Penny, who was a yarn-winder at Pharr Yarns, was a woman of quiet strength, her modest demeanor demonstrating a heart full of love. Her infectious smile had the power to brighten even the dreariest of days, and her gentle presence brought comfort to those around her. Penny's passion for gardening and flowers was a testament to her nurturing spirit. The beauty she cultivated in her garden reflected the warmth she spread to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her green thumb extended beyond plants; Penny nurtured the bonds of family and friendship with equal care. As a mother, Penny provided unwavering support and guidance to her son, Dale, and daughter, Teresa. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were recipients of her boundless love. Penny Rowland will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her selflessness, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of those around her. In her role as a caretaker, she gave more than she received, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends. Penny was steadfast in her faith and often proclaimed that she was prepared to meet her maker, Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we bid farewell to Penny, let us celebrate the legacy of love and compassion she leaves behind. May her memory inspire us to cherish our loved ones and embrace the joy of giving, as she did throughout her remarkable life.
