, 94, of Carrollton, MS, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his residence. Services will be 11 a. m. Saturday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Carroll County with visitation 10 a. m. until service time. Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Downs was born July 27, 1927 in Carroll County, MS, to Joseph L. Downs, Sr. and Rosie Wiltshire Downs. He served as Carroll County Beat 4 Supervisor and worked a number of years for the county. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. His hobby was fishing, and he was a member of the Carrollton Masonic Lodge #36. He was preceded in death by his wives, Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Downs and Vivian Rayburn Downs, son, Joseph William "Buddy" Downs, and his parents. He is survived by his sons, James Downs and wife Aliene of Coila, MS, Thomas Downs and wife Carol of McCarley, MS, Danny Downs of Carrollton, MS, and Charlie Downs and wife Sandy of Carrollton, MS; sister, Elsie Morrison of Carrollton, MS; brothers, Buck Downs of North Carrollton, MS, and Bob Downs of Carrollton, MS; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Chris Downs, Matt Downs, Will Downs, Drew Boutwell, Brad Rayburn, and George Beckwith. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
