Vivian Evangelen (Hammer) Thomas was born to Albert and Violet (Wallin) Hammer on March 17, 1932, in rural Newman Grove, Nebraska. She passed away January 31, 2019, at CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended country school through 8th grade, then Albion High School, where she graduated in 1949. She then moved to Tekamah where her sister Arlene lived. On February 18, 1951, she married Donald Leo Thomas at First Methodist Church in Tekamah. They were married 66 years and lived most of them in Tekamah. During a majority of those years, Vivian worked as a church secretary at First Methodist Church, bookkeeper at Penneys, and cashier at the First National Bank. In retirement she assisted at Pelan Funeral Services with visitations and services. Vivian belonged to Eastern Star, PEO, Sewing Club, Knitting Club, Book Club, and Bridge Club. She sewed and knitted numerous items for family and friends with love. She was especially proud of the 100 prayer shawls she had knitted for those that were not well or facing a terminal illness. Her favorite hobbies included sewing, knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, Solitaire and Husker sports of any kind. Vivian will always be remembered for her love of family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Thomas; parents; sister, Arlene Weatherly; son, Kim Thomas; son in law, Doug Ray; daughter in law, Nancy (Peck) Thomas. Survivors include her daughter Kristi (Steve) Zechmann of Lincoln; son Kevin (Denise) Thomas of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
