Erline Virginia Dare Koon was born at home in the community of Ebenezer in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 25, 1932, to Samuel A. Koon and Beatrice (Combs) Koon. Erline, as she was called at the time, was the youngest of six children. When Erlene began school, she commonly became referred to as Virginia. At the age of 14 a school friend introduced Virginia to her cousin Marion Lawhorn who was to become the love of her life. She raised her family with loving care, while taking care of her parents and siblings. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and active member of the Blue Grass PTA where she worked yearly on award winning Christmas floats. Her home was a place where friends and neighbors were always welcome, sometimes into the wee hours playing badminton in the front yard or the huge bonfires in the Autumn. She greatly loved birds and flowers and spent endless hours working in her many flower and vegetable gardens. Virginia exemplified serving God faithfully to her family, belonging to Ebenezer United Methodist Church and later First Church of God. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining her Senior Saints group and her extended family. Her family was her greatest joy. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 72 years Marion E. Lawhorn, brothers Troy Koon, William Stanley and Andrew Koon, sisters Bernice Koon, Mohee Stanley, and granddaughter Keisha Dare Blake Williams. She is survived by her three children, Julia L.
