Virginia Honeycutt Obituary

Age - 89
October 6, 2023
Stigler, OK
Helen Virginia (Ford) Honeycutt was born April 2, 1934 and entered her heavenly home on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Born to John D and Neoma Spessard Ford in the small but then very active Haskell County community of Sans Bois. She started going to school at the rock schoolhouse just up the road from her childhood home and later graduated from Kinta High School in 1950 at the age of sixteen. Virginia had always wanted to go to college and continue to further her education but after spring storms wiped out the crop that year, Virginia went to work helping to support her family including jobs in the Haskell County Assessor's office and eventually as a long distance switch operator with Southwestern Bell. In 1953, she would marry her high school sweetheart Gerald Don Honeycutt, and the two would form a committed relationship that would remain strong for 70 years. Virginia and Gerald would raise two children, Karen Sue and Gary Don Honeycutt. By then, she was a stay at home mom who used the skills she learned from her mother, sewing and cooking, to meet the needs of her family including learning to drive when her kids school activities required additional transportation. Determined and proud to see her children go to college, Virginia went back to work at the Wonder Bread Thrift Store in McAlester as well as helping Gerald with the any of the daily chores including raising cattle on the family's farm or driving the rake tractor during hay season. Virginia's love grew with the birth of her two grandsons and later three great granddaughters who she loved spending time with doing fun things including climbing the rocks at Robbers Cave State Park or an afternoon on the Sans Bois Creek and also teaching them that there were jobs that had to be done first. Shy yet strong in her beliefs, Virginia Honeycutt exampled the true meaning of love and service to others every day of her life. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Gearld Honeycutt of McAlester, her children Gary of the home and daughter Karen Huddleston and husband Bill of Muskogee; her grandsons Brad Huddleston and wife Lindsay and their daughter Blaire and Geoff Huddleston and wife Branica and daughters Burkely June and Gentry Dawn.
