Mrs Virginia Rose Clark, 86, of Orlando KY, departed this life on Friday, October 6th, 2023, at St Joseph hospital in London KY She was born on April 17, 1937, in Mt Vernon, KY, a daughter of the late Clyde and Edna Kirby Pittman In 1954 she wed Maurice Edward Clark She was a member of Brush Creek Holiness Church and she loved watching game shows on TV, going to church and listening to gospel music Those left to celebrate her life are her grandchildren, James Clyde, Freddie Jr Clark and Amy Lynn Rose Four Great Grandchildren; Charles Jeffrey, Ashlynn Rose, Jacklyn Rose and Bladyn Clark Three sisters; Beverly Price, Verna Woodall, Brenda Eads One brother; Charles Pittman, as well as a host of friends and neighbors Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; Maurice Eward Clark, Four sons; Clyde Randall, Charles Freddie, Billy Michael, and Maurice Jr Two sisters; Sandra Brumagen, Evelyn Kidwell

John Holbrook, 88 of Renfro Valley, KY passed from this life to heaven on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, at home with his son holding him as he took his last breath. He was born in Colson, KY in Letcher County on June the 12th 1935. The son of May Crawford Holbrook & Ben Holbrook. John moved to Brodhead, Ky, Rockcastle County, in February 1944 with his family. He spent a many hard days as a child and adult farming and raising cattle. His father Ben turned the family farm over to him at just 15 years old and his brother Jesse was just 12 years old. He was a Christian and lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since 1944. He became a Deacon on April 4th, 1971. He was also the song leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. He attended Berea College and received a BS in Agriculture. Then went on to serve his country in the Army. He was a schoolteacher at Buffalo school. He married Faye Abney in 1962. Attended the University of Kentucky and received a master's degree in social work. John loved his family and community. He was a 30-year employee at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services in Mt. Vernon as well as a Rockcastle County Educator. He served as a magistrate for many years, played Santa for over 40 years and was a Kentucky Colonel. John loved raising flowers, telling jokes, carving, and giving away keychains. He loved and was proud of his family. He enjoyed being a grandpa most of all. He lived his life serving God and thanking Jesus for all his blessings. John was a loving husband, wonderful dad, and beloved grandpa. He is survived by his wife Faye Abney Holbrook; his son, Anthony Holbrook from High Point, NC; his daughter, Cynthia Holbrook from Renfro Valley, KY; granddaughter, Whitley Holbrook and husband Spencer Forney from Greensboro, NN; Grandson, Ethan Holbrook and wife Marion Josey from Bardstown, KY; sister, Frances Johnson from Louisville, KY; brother, Jesse Holbrook and wife, Barbara Sue from Nicholasville, KY; He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Captain Calloway Holbrook; Father, Ben Holbrook; brothers, Paul Holbrook and Don Holbrook; Mother, May Crawford Holbrook; sisters, Katherine Hoffman, Louise Polly, Ruth Ford, and Margaret Penny. John Holbrook lived to be the oldest male of the Holbrook family's recorded history for the last 350 years. Visitation for John Holbrook will be Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 11-1pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with funeral services following at 1PM with Bros. James "Jim" Len Morris died peacefully on Sunday, November 5, at the age of 75. Jim is survived by his wife, Dolores Reppert Morris; his siblings, Rodger Morris and Lisa Hounshell; his children, Aimee Tackett, Kim Button, and Zack Morris; his bonus children, Rebecca Toy, Michael Albright, and Jessica Leith; his grandchildren, Madeline Toy, Ansley Toy, Avery Toy, Cooper Leith, Tate Button, Garett Button, Marissa Button, and Skylar Morris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Linzie Morris and Hazel Burdette, and his sister, Billie Sharon Hiers. Jim was born on April 6, 1948 in Richmond, Indiana. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1966 and later enlisted as a Marine. Jim valiantly served his country in Vietnam, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Metal for distinguishing himself by heroic service. Upon his return, Jim attended Eastern Kentucky University. He settled in Lexington, Kentucky, and after exploring career options, Jim found his career calling in truck driving. After almost thirty years behind the wheel, Jim retired in 2005 from Averitt Express to enjoy spending more time with his wife, volunteering at church, mowing his lawn, and watching his beloved Westerns. Jim was a member of Maretburg Baptist Church. He'd previously served as a trustee at First Baptist Church and was active in AWANA. While Jim was known to be a dedicated employee, hardworking, and loyal, his greatest impact was made through his loving contributions to his family. They remember him as a man of high standards with moral integrity, strong but humble, giving without reservation, faithful and loving with an always-positive perspective on life. When greeted by others and asked how he was doing, Jim was known for his cheerful disposition and honest response, "I'm fantastic. " Pallbearers include Zack Morris, Michael Albright, Tate Button, Garett Button, CJ Tackett, and Skylar Morris. Honorary pallbearers include Rodger Morris, Paul Blevins, David Toy, and Kevin Button. Charles Coman Deatherage, age 83 of Mt. Vernon, departed this life on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born on September 10, 1940, in Mullins Station, Ky. , a son of the late Arlis and Clotine Hansel Deatherage. He had been a 35-year employee of Kentucky Stone. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, and found great joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and his grandkids. On July 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Juanita Rader Deatherage, and they enjoyed 62 years together prior to her passing May 24, 2022. Those left to celebrate his life are his son, Doug Deatherage and Rita of Crab Orchard, Ky; his grandchildren, Tiffany Deatherage, Justin Lear, Ashley Bolling, and Dustin Marcum; his great grandchildren: Cheyenne Skyler, Laycee, Kinley, Cullen, and Rhett; his great great grandchildren: Blade and Oliver. His sister-in-law, Phyllis Deatherage of Mt. Vernon, Ky. As well as a host of nieces/nephews, friends, and neighbors. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his children: Sheila Marlene Deatherage and Connie Gayle Deatherage; Two brothers: Paul Gene Deatherage and Saley Joe Deatherage. Sadie Mae Brown Carr ( December 2, 1927 - October 19, 2023 ) Sadie Mae (Brown) Carr went to her everlasting home on October 19, 2023. Sadie was born December 2, 1927, in Rock Castle Kentucky to Abe Harrison Brown and Susie Barker Brown. Sadie grew up in a family of 11 children. Along with her parents, siblings Margie, Edith, Verbena, Joseph, Vivian, Frank, and Jasper preceded Sadie in death. Brother Shirl and sisters Glenda and Dovie live in Kentucky and Sadie especially enjoyed any time she spent with them along with sister-in-laws Fayrene (Jasper's wife) and Norma (Joseph's wife) Sadie loved and was devoted to her family. Sadie was married to Stuart Edward Carr (Eddie) for 48 years prior to his death in 2000. Eddie and Sadie have 3 children: Karen Sue Stamper (Joe), Sharon Moore (Ed), and Curtis Carr (Amanda). They have 7 grandchildren: Joey Stamper (Sara), Jenny Back (Mike), Lindsay Tippins (Paul), Phillip Moore, Caitlin Carr, Baxter Carr, and Harrison Carr as well as 6 greatgrandchildren: Owen and Maggie Stamper, Lilly Back, along with Ahna, Jacob and Aubrey Tippins. Sadie spoke fondly of her life growing up on a farm, including stories of milking cows starting at age 6, working in the tobacco fields and chopping wood when she got home from school. Sadie was known for her incredible cooking, which includes her famous chicken and dumplings and banana pudding - everything she cooked was delicious! Sadie worked hard her entire life. She worked in numerous factories and said she was told she could return to any job she ever left. Her work ethic continued at home. She worked and raised the children while also tending a garden. Sadie and Eddie loved gardening and she "put up" (canning and freezing) everything she could. Sadie shared the following statement with anyone she could: "Work won't hurt you. It might hurt your feelings, but it won't hurt you Sadie's faith and her relationship with God were most important to her. Her favorite place to be was church. She was raised in the Church of Christ and spent the last 51 years of her life worshipping at the Newton Church of Christ. She and we (the family) are thankful for the brothers and sisters who supported her throughout the years. To celebrate Sadie's life, her funeral service will be held at !2:00 p. m. Saturday October 28th at Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals in Brodhead, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 10:00 a. m. until 11:45 a. m. prior to the service. . Burial will follow the service in Mt.
