Mary Melissa Pyles Davis was born November 13th, 1972, in Galveston, TX. She passed away on November 1st, 2023, at age 50. Her life was cut short by the ravages of cancer. Melissa is preceded in death by her husband Shane Davis and her father Jerry Pyles. She is survived by her children; Katelynn Davis 24, Skyler Davis 21, and Natalie Lester 16. Her partner; David Lester & Mother; Ellen O'Brien. Future son-in law & friend; Tyler Smith. Melissa was a true music lover, there was never a time she didn't have music playing. She was also an animal lover, adopting many dogs and cats throughout her life, one cat in particular name Matilda that she cherished for almost 15 years. She loved gardening, fashion, and cosmetology. Melissa will be missed by many friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 430 Tara Lane, Troup, TX 75789 or Cottle funeral home a couple days before memorial service. Jerry Wayne Pyles departed this life on April 20, 2023. He was born on December 15, 1945, in Tarrant County Texas. He passed away in Palestine, Texas, and was a resident of Anderson County for over forty years. Jerry was preceded in death by his father Jay Pyles, and Mother Lou Sindy Pyles. Jerry was known for his carpentry profession, which was truly an awesome sight to behold. He built his home piece by piece with his own hands using manual tools, with no electricity! He also crafted many decorative art pieces of wood, stone, and various medium. His family was thrilled to receive his handmade crafts and consider them a true treasure. Jerry also loved a good poker game and bonfire with his friends on the weekends and attended the dogwood trails celebration every single year with his grandchildren, he was very involved in his grandchildren's life and loved to take them camping, fishing, and teaching them some of his tips and tricks in carpentry. Jerry loved to read, he had a mountain of books in his home and rest assured he read every single page. He also had a green thumb and could grow just about anything, even banana trees in Texas! Jerry is survived by his daughter Mary Melissa Davis, his grandchildren Katelynn Davis, Skyler Davis, Natalie Lester, and his beloved dogs Ringo and Zero. Susie Mae Lindsey, 89, of Mixon, passed away on October 30, 2023, in Troup, Texas. She was born on October 23, 1934, in Kennedale, Texas, to the late William F. and Lucy Mae Elrod Cooper. Funeral services for Susie Lindsey will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 2, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Mixon, Texas with Reverend Preston Lindsey, Keith Lindsey, and Kent Lindsey officiating, with burial following at Mixon Cemetery, Mixon. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 2, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Mixon. Susie was a resident of the Mixon community and a member of the First Baptist Church, Mixon. She graduated from Mansfield High School, Tyler Junior College, Stephen F. Austin University, and Kilgore Jr. College; she earned her master's degree in education. She taught at Troup ISD, Chapel Hill ISD, Whitehouse ISD and Overton ISD. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her husband, Curtis. Carrie Anne Patterson, 72, of Troup, Texas, passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She enjoyed her first of many amazing worship services alongside her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday morning. She was born March 17, 1951, in Jacksonville, Texas, to the late Homer Allen and Doris Carrie Dickey. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday October 17, 2023, at Cottle Funeral Home Troup. Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday October 18, 2023, at First Baptist Church Troup. Carrie Anne was affectionally known as Ankie or Cappie by family and friends along with the many children she cared for over the years. Cappie's true passion beyond her immediate family was caring for children. Once those children had kids of their own, she watched some of those too. Cappie operated the daycare in her home along with her husband Steve until her body would no longer allow it. Carrie Anne had many hobbies, but decorating for holidays and her avid gardening were most impressive. Her green thumb was evident throughout her yard at 503. She took special care to make sure everything was immaculate for her annual Easter egg hunt, which went on to be enjoyed by multiple generations of neighbors and friends. Carrie Anne had a true heart for people of all ages. She served extensively in her church, school, and city, always looking for a way to show others the love of Christ. She was a founding member of Troup Tiger Moms Club and was constantly hosting meals for the various sports teams. Evelyn entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 15, 2023. She was born in Cherokee County on April 28,1933 to Reagan and Lona (Julie) Martin Ledford. Growing up in the Concord community she was surrounded by her close-knit family whom she loved. Evelyn graduated from Troup High School in 1951. She married Clay Allen Martin on December 24, 1951. Clay and Evelyn were married for over 44 years: Together they had four children; Keith, Stan, Jyl, and Melanie. Clay Allen had heart disease and Evelyn was at his side through 23 years of doctor visits, surgeries and long hospital stays. When Evelyn's children were older, she began working outside the home. She worked at Troup Dress Factory, in the fabric department at Gibson's and at Esther's Fine Fabrics. She made friends wherever she went. Evelyn had a strong faith. She worshipped and served the Lord at the First Methodist Church in Troup. Evelyn was a member of First Methodist for many years. She loved her Sunday School class and served on the Hospitality Committee. She also was an avid walker and loved to play Mahjong with her friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, as well as her sister, Bobbie Reynolds, and her brothers Pete and Roy Ledford. Evelyn leaves her sister, Nell Mitchell, and brother, Buster Ledford. She is survived by her children; Keith Martin and wife Deborah, Stan Martin and wife Mary, Jyl Weeks and husband Donald, Melanie Johnson and husband Johnny. She is also survived by the grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Kimberly Rittiman, Elizabeth Martin, Clay Martin, Britt Martin, Joshua Weeks, Chase Weeks, Meagan Pyle, Jake Johnson, and Jenna Quinney. Evelyn has a great legacy leaving fifteen great-grandchildren; Abigail, Korbin, Madelyn, Austin, Brooks, Case, Avery, Jordan, Ben, Audrey, Henry, Norah, Zackary, and Jack who will arrive in December. The family would like to thank Marshall Hospice for their loving care of our mother in her last days. John Lute Boer peacefully passed away at his residence in Arp, TX, on July 26 th, 2023, at the age of 72. John was born in Salt Lake City at Holy Cross Hospital on December 19th, 1950, to Cornelis & Catherine Boer. He was the fifth born of six children. John grew up in Salt Lake City and was drafted into the United States Army July 30th, 1971. John served our country for three years, including 11 months overseas as an Aircraft Mechanic and Helicopter Door-gunner. He was awarded The Air Medal for his service in Vietnam on June 19th, 1972. John was honorably discharged from the United States Army March 11th, 1974. John spent his life working construction jobs and following his passion for training horses. Everybody who knew John knew his love of riding, training, and raising horses. John spent the majority of his life training and raising cow-cutting horses. John had a deep love for horses, he had many horses throughout his life, most notably "Stubby" (Remins Magic). John was well respected in the Cow Cutting community. John is preceded in death by his parents Cornelis & Catherine Boer, and his five siblings: Mary, Bill, Steve, Claudia, and Ben. John is survived by his four beautiful children: Leslie, Kassie, Krystal, and Jett. John also leaves behind twelve loving grandchildren and a great-grandchild. John will be remembered for being a hard worker, an expert coffee drinker, and a hell of a cowboy. John will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
