Dr. Vinson H. Sutlive, Jr. peacefully passed away on October 4, 2023. Vince was born in Thorsby, Alabama on October 29, 1932, to Vinson and Ruth Sutlive. He attended Asbury College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He then proceeded to Vanderbilt University for his Bachelor of Divinity and to the University of Pittsburgh for his Ph. D. Vinson and his wife Joanne served as missionaries in Sarawak, Malaysia from 1957 to 1972. After returning from the mission field, Vince taught and chaired for the Anthropology Department for 30 years at William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia. Vince and Joanne moved to Wesley Village in Wilmore, Kentucky, in 2018. Vinson is survived by his wife, Joanne; sister, Jane; and his children, Vins (Ann) Sutlive, Susan (Stuart) Smith, and Thom (Kim) Sutlive. He also leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren to mourn his passing. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Village on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Brenda Sue Rowe, 77, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023. She was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky to Randolph Hunter Rowe and Nellie Mae Tubbs Rowe. Brenda was a customer service manager at ITW Ramset Redhead. She was a sales associate at Dillard's department store. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Janice Duckworth, Helen Crawford, and Sharon Gallagher, a niece, Christina Duckworth, a nephew, Gary Alan Duckworth, sons, Charles Todd Reffett, and Michael Hunter Reffett, daughters, Leslie Susan Reffett, and Stephanie Anne Powers. She is survived by a daughter, Andrea Marie Powers, granddaughters, Katelin Denise Mullikin, Jessyca Marie Searcy, Emily Grace Searcy, and Leslie Paige Searcy, grandsons, Troy Daniel Reffett and Jaxson Hunter Lawson. A sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ed Peterson, a brother-in-law, Gary Duckworth, several nieces and nephews and friends. Services will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville, Kentucky with Pastor Jason Price officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery immediately following. Pallbearers are Jason Duckworth, Nathan Duckworth, Jerry Witt, Mark Lawson, Jerry "JT" Templeton, Greg Slade, Ricky Slade, and Jeff North. Honorary bearers will be David "Turtle" Terrell and Troy "Hoppy" Slade. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family being at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Shawn Lemay Gehlhausen, 60, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023. The wife of Louis Gehlhausen, Shawn was born October 26, 1963, to the late Stanley and Minnie Thomas Lemay in Lancaster, Kentucky. A registered nurse with St. Joseph Healthcare, Shawn was a natural caregiver who loved to share kindness not only through her profession, but through the gift of blankets. She enjoyed collecting blankets of all kinds and passing the symbol of warmth, comfort, and love to others. Shawn was also passionate about animals. She loved dogs and cats but had a special place in her heart for giraffes. Shopping, listening to country music, and attending concerts were some of her favorite pastimes. In addition to her loving husband of 36 years, Louis Gehlhausen of Frankfort, Shawn leaves behind her children, Ryan Gehlhausen of Frankfort, Shelby (Nicholas) Kaminski of Loveland, OH, and Adam (Natalie Hardy) Gehlhausen of Somerset; a brother, Greg Lemay of Cincinnati, OH; and a granddaughter, Aurora, Adam and Natalie's daughter. Shawn was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Minnie Thomas Lemay, and a brother, Randy K. Lemay. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00am, Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd, Frankfort. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. John (Jack) Monroe Morgan, passed away on Sat. Dec. 2, 2023, in Lexington, KY. John Monroe Morgan, fondly known to by family and friends as Jack Morgan, passed peacefully at home under Hospice Care. He was 95 years old at the time of his passing. Jack lived a long, well-lived, colorful life. Jack was a Valley Forge Graduate followed by his acceptance into Cornell University. He was an avid equestrian, playing on the Cornell Polo Team throughout his college days. He graduated from Cornell with a master's degree in civil engineering and was a full partner at Wight, Morgan, & Brown Consulting until his retirement. Jack was a Veteran of the US Army ranking Captain of Field Artillery, serving in Korea. Jack enjoyed Fox Hunting and rode to hounds with the Licking River Hunt Club for many years, serving as whipper-in. With his love of horses, he coached young riders with the Keeneland Pony Club. He later formed a Polo Team in Lexington, KY and enjoyed playing for many years. He was an avid sailor, loving to go out on his own boat or many a Windjammer adventure. He loved traveling with his wife, Charlotte, to many places around the world. More importantly, Jack was devoted to the Midway Christian Church. He sang in the choir, was an elder, and served on the board. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a Troop Leader who met at the Church. The Church was his home and all the members he held dear and were family to him. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Morgan Garcia; his son, David John Morgan (John); two grandchildren, Kai (Stephanie) Costa and Jordon Morgan; stepchildren, Al Greathouse and Bobbie Greathouse. He is preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Peters Morgan; his brother, Warren Randolph Morgan and stepdaughter, Connie Chinn. A gathering of family and friends will be from 11am - 12pm Tues. , Dec. 19, 2023, at Midway Christian Church, 123 E. Bruen St. , Midway, KY 40347 followed by a service at 12pm with reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. No graveside services are planned. Robert Jerry Cowan, age 81, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 2, 2023. Jerry was born August 8, 1942, in Oskaloosa, IA to Samuel Robert Cowan and Nellie Maude (Shafer) Cowan. He married the love of his life, his special wife, Elizabeth Ann Prestsater on May 27, 1962 and they enjoyed 51 years together until her passing in 2013. Jerry worked at Link-Belt Construction Equipment in several Purchasing roles for 33 years in three locations: Cedar Rapids, IA; Bowling Green, KY; and Lexington, KY. So many work peers became friends, and work friends became like family. Until his illness, Jerry was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lexington, KY and recently served as Church Treasurer. His church family was close to his heart, and he loved the early service. He was excited to be a working part of the recent church construction project. For most of his life, Jerry was an avid golfer. He especially enjoyed the regular rounds and good-natured fun with the "golf guys" weekly. When the day wound down, he also loved crossword puzzles and country music. The most important, though, was his family. Jerry is survived by his loving children, Greg (Paula) Cowan and David Cowan; five grandchildren, Katie (Grant) Burdette, Joseph Cowan, Connor Cowan, Zachary Cowan, and Samanatha Cowan, and one great-grandson, Lincoln Burdette. He is also survived by his brother John (Janice) Cowan, and his sister Jan Cowan (Rick), and a special niece Danielle Cowan. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 516 Pasadena Drive, Lexington, KY 40503. A memorial service for Jerry will immediately follow the visitation, with final burial at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens (TBD). Martha Ellen Sanderson Smith, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023, at home surrounded by a loving family. Martha was born May 31, 1940, in Franklin County, Kentucky to Orville Clay and Leona Bell Newton Sanderson. Martha was raised in Forks of Elkhorn with her 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Martha met the love of her life, Maurice Glen Smith at Elkhorn School. Maurice and Martha were married on December 21, 1957, at the home of Reverend Roy Lyons. Martha was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and favorite aunt of many. Her husband Maurice had joined the US Navy in 1956 and was based at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Florida. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Florida and Martha began adjusting to life as the wife of a sailor who served aboard the USS Intrepid as a fighter jet mechanic. During their time as a Navy couple, their son Jeffrey Wayne was born in 1959. After Maurice's honorable service ended in 1960, the young family moved back home to Frankfort, Kentucky. After returning home to Kentucky, Martha continued being a wonderful homemaker and they were blessed with a daughter, Rebecca Ellen in 1962 and another son, Maurice Timothy in 1968. After completing her education, she began a career in state government where she retired after many years of service. Early in their marriage, Maurice and Martha had discovered the beautiful Atlantic beaches and enjoyed romantic moonlit drives on Daytona Beach. After moving back to Kentucky, they, along with other family members including in-law families, would frequently vacation in their favorite seaside destination, Daytona Beach, Florida. No matter where she was, she always loved spending time with her huge family and cooking for everyone, especially her macaroni casserole. Martha is survived by her son Jeffrey Wayne Smith (Sandy), daughter Rebecca Ellen Smith Burke, and son Maurice Timothy "Tim" Smith (Jennifer). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Leslie "Wayne" Clay Smith, Rachel Elizabeth Ellen Bowman, Nicholas Cody Holloway (Erika), Allison Leslie Smith Mueller (Christopher), Daniel Thomas Holloway, Katlyn Jo Smith Aeh (Nathan), Marissa Nicole Miller (Dale Goins), Jameson Cade Miller (Ashley Scott), Matthew Timothy Smith (Audrey), Clara Grace Ellen Smith. Great Grandchildren: Thea "Teddi" Mueller, Hailey Madison Ellen Goins, Damon Caleb Goins, Sylvia Maeve Hope Goins, Ansley Kate Bowman, Victoria Rose Mueller, Palmer Reese Holloway, Esme Soleil Goins, and James Glen Aeh. Martha's elder grandsons will serve as pall bearers. All other grandchildren and great Grandchildren will serve as honorary pall bearers. Martha is also survived by her brother David Earl Sanderson (Mary), sisters Betty Carrier, Jane Barnett, Wanda Carris (Dennis), Linda Moore (Bill), Judy Wingate, Paula Round, Rosemary Sanderson, sisters-in-law Geri Hockensmith Sanderson and Janice Lee Smith Cunningham (David), as well as many, many nieces, and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Maurice Glen Smith, parents, Orville Clay and Leona Bell Newton Sanderson, brother Albert Douglas "Doug" Sanderson, brothers-in-law Reuben Eugene Smith, Roy Douglas Barnett and Bobby Carrier, sister-in-law Betty Cunningham Smith, nephew Michael David Cunningham, son-in-law Michael Paul Burke, as well as her great-niece Daphne LaRae Scruggs Fields. Martha was a long-time member of Thornhill Baptist and Buck Run Baptist Churches. Clark Legacy Center is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at Clark Legacy Center in Frankfort on Thursday December 7, 2023, from 5 until 7pm. Visitation will also be on Friday December 8 from 12:00 until the funeral service at 1:00pm. John Regester age 84 of Nicholasville KY passed away at home after a brief illness on December 2, 2023. He was born on March 22, 1939, and was the son of the late Horace and Ruth Regester. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Ernest, Kenneth, Ronald, and Jerry; sister Nancy Moody; and daughter Kathleen A. Regester. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Voss Regester. A son James L. Regester of Nicholasville KY, a daughter Karen M. Lay (Tony) of Hustonville KY, grandsons Johnathon L. Regester (Katie) and Christopher D. Lay, granddaughter Megan E. Horton (Jonah), two great-grandchildren Jace L. Regester and Amelia H. Regester, one sister Lois Fose and many nieces and nephews. John moved to Kentucky from Rochester, New York with Sargent and Greenleaf Inc. in 1974. He retired from lock/key work after 45 years. He, along with his wife Mary spent many years volunteering with associations such as the Special Olympics. He was a knight with the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Nicholasville. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed working for the University of Kentucky after his "retirement" enjoying games as he ushered, worked concessions, and security. John will be sadly missed by his family and friends, we will miss his sense of humor, his smile, and his laughter.
