In addition to his wife Dianne Norwood of their home, survivors include three sons, Phil Norwood and wife Phyllis of Graham, Tony Norwood and wife Amanda of New Bern, and Chris Norwood and wife Gwen of Graham; seven grandchildren, Molly Norwood Mayberry and husband Aaron of Austin, TX, Anna Norwood and partner Mason Keck of Nashville, TN, Peter Norwood and wife Caroline of Los Angeles, CA, Alex Norwood and fiance Brigitta Goshen of Durham, Ben Norwood of Houston, TX, Samantha Norwood of Graham, and Corinne Norwood of Graham; and one great grandchild, Harper Mayberry. The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 p. m. The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. For over 30 years, Larry travelled the roads east of the Mississippi cris-crossing the states to deliver countless items to exotic places like Buffalo and Cleveland. Although his life spread across innumerable miles, his heart never strayed more than a few miles from his home in Mandale, North Carolina. Larry loved his home and found it inconceivable that anyone would want to live anywhere other than the rolling hills and farmland where he grew up. He loved Mount Olive Baptist Church; loved the building and the people and the feeling of community around it. He served in many roles at the church including Church Trustee, Treasurer, Youth Group mission trip chaperone, Bible School prop construction co-foreman, and chief chitlin' cooker. He served on the Board of Deacons so many times you could count the number of years he wasn't a deacon without taking off your shoes. He was also active in the Eli Whitney Ruritan, where he utilized his cooking skills for BBQ fundraisers. He was also the "calendar man", as he received great joy in selling and distributing the Ruritan Community calendars. Larry's faith was built on helping others. He had large hands and a large heart. Both were always busy helping those in need of repair of their homes, or their spirits. He loved fishing, regardless of catch. He also loved beach trips, eating seafood, gospel music, and playing Canasta and Rook. Above all, Larry loved his family. He found the love of his life when he was a freshman in high school and saw Mary get off the bus at Eli Whitney High School. For over sixty years they built a life together based on love, trust, family, an incredible work ethic - and knowing when to talk and when not to. He loved his three sons, their wives, and his grandchildren, and always supported them even when it may have taken him out of his comfort zone. He also loved his "brothers, sisters, and other children" from the Jones and Thompson families . Somewhat unexpectantly, Larry found love a second time and rediscovered the giddiness of young love at 80 when he married his second wife and became part of a new family. He was a man filled with love and laughter. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 5043 Mt. Olive Church Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312 or mtolivebaptist. com.
