Victoria June Miller, age 50, of Asheville, NC passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Asheville, NC. Victoria was born on November 27, 1972 in Hendersonville, NC to Larry Corn and Glenda McGraw Corn Padgett. She was a Christian lady who was of the Baptist faith and had attended Believers Fellowship Pentecostal Church in Lakeland, FL. Victoria was a nature lover and enjoyed going on hikes. She loved to write poetry and enjoyed music. She attended East Henderson High School and was a clarinet player in the band. She was a strong-willed person, free-spirited, and a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Victoria is survived by her three daughters, Shandi Cabral and her husband Pearce of Lewisville, NC, Angela Miller of Asheville, NC and Shannon Cabral of Walkertown, NC; and a grandson, Logan Gush of Lewisville, NC. Carlton Bradley Earnhardt, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at the age of 55. He was the son of the late Keith Lancaster Earnhardt and Dr. James F. Earnhardt. He was born at the Camp Zama Army Hospital near Tokyo, Japan, where his father was stationed at the time. Brad is survived by his father, Dr. James F. Earnhardt of Gerton, NC; his two brothers: James F. Earnhardt, Jr. , of Raleigh, NC, and Michael K. Earnhardt of La Crescenta, CA; his sister-in-law, Angela Curry Earnhardt, of La Crescenta; his two nephews: Warwick M. Earnhardt, of Durham, NC, and Silas C. Earnhardt, of La Crescenta; and two nieces: Scarlett S. Earnhardt, of New York, NY, and Ada R. Earnhardt, of La Crescenta. He is also survived by his former wife and best friend, Francis Xenakis Earnhardt, of Asheville. Brad grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, where he completed high school and undergraduate studies at the School of Music at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Upon graduating, he attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Arizona. He eventually settled in Asheville where he performed and taught classical guitar. He was a founding member of the Asheville Classical Guitar Society and a regular performer at the Biltmore Estate. He continued to teach and inspire students young and old, many of whom he referred to the North Carolina School of the Arts and other national programs. Brad maintained many friendships with former students from across the country. He not only had a passion for classical guitar, but for the arts in general. Brad was also fiercely proud of not owning a television and was a lifelong lover of cats, including his beloved six-toed Mia. He loved to cook and was particularly fond of Asian cuisine. Brad was also passionate about politics, always choosing the side of compassion, equality, tolerance, and social justice. In the spring of this year, Brad was diagnosed with cancer and he eventually failed to respond to treatment. There is great appreciation by his family for the significant time and effort of his doctors, nurses, other care providers and his many friends. Brad was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by many and will be sorely missed. A private memorial will be held by immediate family. A public celebration of his life will take place in Asheville during the week of Brad's birthday in mid-January. Details will be announced. Asheville - Betty Meadows, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Swannanoa Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Asheville. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a graduate of Mars Hill College. Mrs. Meadows retired from the N. C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Center and was a longtime member of Emma United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making great memories together. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Meadows was a daughter of the late Henry Shuford and Mary Patton Shuford, and the wife of the late John Troy Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Kate Seaward and Laura Shuford; and by her twin brother, Lewis Shuford. Surviving are her son, John L. Meadows; and daughter, Mary Emmagene Mangum and husband Reid. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Mary Cash officiating. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery in Swannanoa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. A special thanks to all the staff and caregivers at the Swannanoa Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center and Four Seasons Hospice for their love and support given to our family. Clara Elizabeth Ownbey Harris, 96, of Asheville, NC, went to be with her Lord on December 4, 2023. She was born on May 12, 1927 in Asheville to Oliver and Mary Ownbey. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Porter "Shorty" Harris, her parents, brothers, Herbert (sister-in-law, Charlene) of Asheville and David Ownbey of Biloxi, MS, and her sister-in-law, Johnnie Ownbey of Spartanburg, SC. Clara was a graduate of Grace High School and Cecil's Business College. She worked for Carolina Power & Light Company prior to her marriage to "Shorty" on February 19, 1949. Clara was an active member of Abernethy United Methodist Church for over 70 years, serving her Lord as a Sunday school teacher, leader of the United Methodist Women, supporting Abernethy's B. E. A. R. Closet and actively working with the Prayer Quilt Ministry. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Brooks-Howell Home. Her contributions to God's Kingdom on earth are too numerous to list. Clara is survived by brothers Frank Ownbey of Spartanburg, SC, and Joe Ownbey (Judy) of Pisgah Forest, NC; by her sister-in-law, Cathie Ownbey, of Biloxi, MS; by her children, Stephen Harris (Myrna) of Asheville, and Portia Gajewski (Robert) of Mill Spring, NC. She also leaves six grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Corrine Harris Wessman (Brian) of St. Louis, MO; Ryan Eli Harris of Portland, OR; Matthew Stephen Harris of St. Louis; Megan Alicia Gajewski Barnhill (Richard) of Arlington, VA; Philip Andrew Gajewski (Emily) of Charleston, SC; and Katie Marie Gajewski Sweeney (Dan) of Charleston, SC. Clara is also survived by six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, (Time TBD) at Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC, with Reverend Dianne Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abernethy United Methodist Church or the charity of choice.
