Victoria June Miller, age 50, of Asheville, NC passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, in Asheville, NC. Victoria was born on November 27, 1972 in Hendersonville, NC to Larry Corn and Glenda McGraw Corn Padgett. She was a Christian lady who was of the Baptist faith and had attended Believers Fellowship Pentecostal Church in Lakeland, FL. Victoria was a nature lover and enjoyed going on hikes. She loved to write poetry and enjoyed music. She attended East Henderson High School and was a clarinet player in the band. She was a strong-willed person, free-spirited, and a loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Victoria is survived by her three daughters, Shandi Cabral and her husband Pearce of Lewisville, NC, Angela Miller of Asheville, NC and Shannon Cabral of Walkertown, NC; and a grandson, Logan Gush of Lewisville, NC. Celine Lurey

"Celine Hanan Lurey, born October 26, 1948, transitioned to a lighter plane of consciousness on Thursday, December 7th. She passed from complications associated with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy that was diagnosed almost 5 years ago. The Jewish immigrant was born in Cairo, Egypt, and exiled in the mid-1960s. She arrived in the USA in 1966 and was accepted to attend Warren Wilson College where she eventually was introduced to her lifetime partner and Asheville native, Bernard Michael Lurey. She lived in Asheville for over 50 years and is survived by her husband as well as her daughter Nicole who lives in Tucson, AZ, and son David who lives in Mallorca, Spain. She was a pioneer in many areas including being the first woman President of Beth Israel Synagogue, the first Jewish President of the Junior League of Asheville, and a longtime community leader and trendsetter with her namesake catering company: Celine and Company / On Broadway. She was featured on Carolina Kitchen, one of the first local cooking programs, and was well respected in all of her personal and business ventures. Martin (Marty) Charles Chenard, 76, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He was born on February 15, 1947 in Portland, ME to the late Robert Chenard and Janet Dancause Chenard. He was a former resident of Massachusetts and currently resided in Asheville, NC. Marty graduated with a bachelors degree form Lowell Tech in Massachusetts. He went on to become a stock market analyst and was the owner/founder of Stocktiming. com Marty was one of the kindest men you could ever know. He was a great dad and stepdad, supportive and loving husband and engaging grandparent. He will be missed for his kindness, selflessness, dry wit and joy that he brought to everyone around him. Carlton Earnhardt

Age - 55

Carlton Bradley Earnhardt, of Asheville, NC, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at the age of 55. He was the son of the late Keith Lancaster Earnhardt and Dr. James F. Earnhardt. He was born at the Camp Zama Army Hospital near Tokyo, Japan, where his father was stationed at the time. Brad is survived by his father, Dr. James F. Earnhardt of Gerton, NC; his two brothers: James F. Earnhardt, Jr. , of Raleigh, NC, and Michael K. Earnhardt of La Crescenta, CA; his sister-in-law, Angela Curry Earnhardt, of La Crescenta; his two nephews: Warwick M. Earnhardt, of Durham, NC, and Silas C. Earnhardt, of La Crescenta; and two nieces: Scarlett S. Earnhardt, of New York, NY, and Ada R. Earnhardt, of La Crescenta. He is also survived by his former wife and best friend, Francis Xenakis Earnhardt, of Asheville. Brad grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, where he completed high school and undergraduate studies at the School of Music at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Upon graduating, he attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Arizona. He eventually settled in Asheville where he performed and taught classical guitar. He was a founding member of the Asheville Classical Guitar Society and a regular performer at the Biltmore Estate. He continued to teach and inspire students young and old, many of whom he referred to the North Carolina School of the Arts and other national programs. Brad maintained many friendships with former students from across the country. He not only had a passion for classical guitar, but for the arts in general. Brad was also fiercely proud of not owning a television and was a lifelong lover of cats, including his beloved six-toed Mia. He loved to cook and was particularly fond of Asian cuisine. Brad was also passionate about politics, always choosing the side of compassion, equality, tolerance, and social justice. In the spring of this year, Brad was diagnosed with cancer and he eventually failed to respond to treatment. There is great appreciation by his family for the significant time and effort of his doctors, nurses, other care providers and his many friends. Brad was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by many and will be sorely missed. A private memorial will be held by immediate family. A public celebration of his life will take place in Asheville during the week of Brad's birthday in mid-January. Details will be announced. Mary Sue Stephens Thompson December 28, 1924 - December 6, 2023 Mary Sue Stephens Thompson, age 98, passed away at CarePartners Solace Center in Asheville on December 6, 2023. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Beulah Crawford Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Don Thompson, who died in 1986; one son, Jeff who died in 2021; five brothers, Harold, Lester, James "Poss", Wayne, and Jerry; and two sisters, Evelyn Hamilton and Jean Lindsey. She is survived by two sons, Mike Thompson, and his wife, Carol, of Waukesha, WI and Don Thompson, and his wife, Colleen, of Pittsburg, TX; and one daughter, Linda Sease, and her husband, Mike, of Asheville, NC; one sister, Eloise Stephens of Cullowhee, NC; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Although Mary Sue was a native of North Carolina, she lived for over 40 years in South Dakota with her husband, Don, while raising their family. After his passing, she returned to her roots and lived out the rest of her life in western North Carolina. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, spending time with friends and family, and baking her legendary Christmas cookies. A graveside service will be held at a later date in South Dakota. Betty Meadows

Asheville - Betty Meadows, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the Swannanoa Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Asheville. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a graduate of Mars Hill College. Mrs. Meadows retired from the N. C. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Center and was a longtime member of Emma United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making great memories together. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Meadows was a daughter of the late Henry Shuford and Mary Patton Shuford, and the wife of the late John Troy Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Kate Seaward and Laura Shuford; and by her twin brother, Lewis Shuford. Surviving are her son, John L. Meadows; and daughter, Mary Emmagene Mangum and husband Reid. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, December 12, 2023, in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Mary Cash officiating. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery in Swannanoa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Charlotte, NC - Argylle Runion Woolley, 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Pavilion Health Center at Brightmore. Mrs. Woolley was a native and resident of Buncombe County until moving to Charlotte in 1966. She retired in 1979 from Mirafi where she served as the receptionist. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte and a former member of Newbridge Baptist Church. Mrs. Woolley was a daughter of the late Cecil Gray Runion and Mollie Belle Thorpe Runion, and the wife of the late Adrian Reid Woolley, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Reid Blackwelder; brothers: Leroy Runion, Lester Runion, and Cecil Runion; and sisters: Cecelia Robinson, Annie Lanier, and Thelma Norton. Surviving are her daughter, Lori W. Santon; son, Alan Reid Wooley; grandchildren: Christian Hope Lamb and husband Matt, Charles Adrian Woolley, Jordan Reid Woolley, and Elijah David Therrien; great-granddaughter, Aleigh Kate Lamb; and sister, Joan Anderson. A private graveside service will be held at Ashlawn Gardens of Memory where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Orin W. Sircey passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2023. He was born September 3, 1930 in Oteen to Joseph Herman Sircey and Theola Allman Sircey. He was 1949 graduate of Biltmore High School, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a Blanton College graduate. He was a long time member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the American Legion Post #70, V. F. W. Post #891, the Forty and Eight Society, and the Air Force Gunners Association. Orin was a published poet, songwriter, and an award winning artist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theola Sircey, brothers Roy Sircey, Herman Sircey and James Sircey, sister, Barbara Lowman, as well as his beloved wife of 26 years, Patricia Rae Justice Sircey. He is survived by a daughter, Angela and husband, Lane Pressley of Fletcher, son, Ronnie and wife, Samantha Sircey of Swannanoa, granddaughters, Jessica Frymyer of Mt. Ulla, NC and Janie Sircey of Vernon, CT, grandson, William Orin Barger of Hickory, NC, and a great grandson. A funeral service is planned for Monday, December 11 at 2:00 p. m. at Grassy Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lonnie Ray officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Clara Elizabeth Ownbey Harris, 96, of Asheville, NC, went to be with her Lord on December 4, 2023. She was born on May 12, 1927 in Asheville to Oliver and Mary Ownbey. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Porter "Shorty" Harris, her parents, brothers, Herbert (sister-in-law, Charlene) of Asheville and David Ownbey of Biloxi, MS, and her sister-in-law, Johnnie Ownbey of Spartanburg, SC. Clara was a graduate of Grace High School and Cecil's Business College. She worked for Carolina Power & Light Company prior to her marriage to "Shorty" on February 19, 1949. Clara was an active member of Abernethy United Methodist Church for over 70 years, serving her Lord as a Sunday school teacher, leader of the United Methodist Women, supporting Abernethy's B. E. A. R. Closet and actively working with the Prayer Quilt Ministry. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Brooks-Howell Home. Her contributions to God's Kingdom on earth are too numerous to list. Clara is survived by brothers Frank Ownbey of Spartanburg, SC, and Joe Ownbey (Judy) of Pisgah Forest, NC; by her sister-in-law, Cathie Ownbey, of Biloxi, MS; by her children, Stephen Harris (Myrna) of Asheville, and Portia Gajewski (Robert) of Mill Spring, NC. She also leaves six grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Corrine Harris Wessman (Brian) of St. Louis, MO; Ryan Eli Harris of Portland, OR; Matthew Stephen Harris of St. Louis; Megan Alicia Gajewski Barnhill (Richard) of Arlington, VA; Philip Andrew Gajewski (Emily) of Charleston, SC; and Katie Marie Gajewski Sweeney (Dan) of Charleston, SC. Clara is also survived by six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, (Time TBD) at Abernethy United Methodist Church, 1418 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC, with Reverend Dianne Johnston officiating.
