Joe D. Hughes, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Neshoba General Hospital in Philadelphia, MS. A Memorial Services will be held at a later Date. Joe was born to James Otho Hughes and Ola Wiggins on August 2, 1944, in Scott County, MS. He was a lifelong resident of Polkville, MS. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church of Polkville. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Joe loved all of his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Ola Hughes and his brother, Larry Hughes. He is survived by his son, Rhesie Hughes (Stacey) of Homewood, MS; his two daughters, Carla Walker of Danville, VA and Stacy Wells (Robbie) of Pass Christan, MS and his adopted son, James Hughes (Marie) of, Philadelphia, MS; his eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Gwendola (Palmer) Hunter, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at her home in Philadelphia, MS surrounded by her beloved family. Gwendola (Gwen) was known for being a talented singer, a gifted chef, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Gwen grew up in Perry County, MS but spent the majority of her life living in Philadelphia, MS. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and a faithful, devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved God, her family, music and shopping. She could be found most days at home reading, watching tv, singing, crocheting or checking on her babies. Gwen was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wayne Hunter; her mother, Lillie Mae (Holder) Bexley; her father, Virgil Palmer; her step-father, Simon Thomas Bexley; her sister, May Joyce Lott; and her great-grandson, Bentley Bozeman. She is survived by her sister, Alma (Palmer) Byrd; her son, Floyd Wayne Hunter, her daughter, Patricia Ann (Hunter) Pendergrass (Brian); son, Sheldon Delone Hunter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christy (Conn) Perdeye (John); Ashlea (Duncan) Beatty (Keith); Brittany (Duncan) Hunt (Shane); Courtney (Hunter) Bozeman (Nathaniel); and Denise (Duncan) Tingle (Rodney. She was further survived by a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers are Keith Beatty, Rodney Tingle, Nathaniel Bozeman, John Perdeye, Mike Snow and Paul Tingle. Goodbye, my Angel....1, 4, 3."

Ms. Copeland, 89, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at her daughter’s home. She lived in Neshoba County all of her life. She graduated from Perkinston College in 1960 and began nursing career at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. She moved back to Neshoba Co. December 1963. She began working at the old hospital and then Neshoba General Hospital / Nursing Home until her retirement in 2003. She was member of Pentecostals of House Church, and her hobbies included fishing, camping, flower gardening, and puzzles. Ms. Copeland was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Copeland; parents, Ralston Brooks and Sadie Martin Daniels; son, Calvin Copeland; brothers, Neil Daniels, Norris Daniels; grandson, Cal Copeland; great-great-granddaughter, Leigh Thomas Kilpatrick. Survivors include daughters, Jamie Fulton (Lige), Cathy Swann (Robert) and Renee Burt (Stan) all of Philadelphia; son, Eddie D. Copeland of Collinsville; sister, Larue Miles of Dekalb; (10) grandchildren; (22) great-grandchildren; (13) great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Grandsons, Chad Copeland, Jay Hardy, Shane Fulton, Lance Copeland, Justin Walley, Josh Burt. The family would like to thank the staff of Quality Hospice for their kindness and care."
