"Victor E. Quillard, 94, passed away on April 22 at home in West Springfield in the company of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke to the late Victor and Amelia Quillard. He graduated from Holyoke High School and Boston University. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and received the WWII Victory Medal. He started his career at Merrill Lynch in NYC but came back to work as a CPA in Springfield. He went on to become President of Hampden Savings Bank and served on several state and national boards for the Savings Bank Association. He was past president of the Colony Club and a longtime member of the Longmeadow Country Club. In 2007, he was named Mr. Longmeadow for all his contributions to the Club. In his many years of retirement, he had time to cultivate his numerous interests including fly fishing, hunting, and travelling. He fished in Alaska, Nova Scotia and Labrador. He also hunted grouse and woodcock in Maine every fall. With his wife of 60 years, Mariellen, they travelled the United States in their RV, which he called his condo on wheels. He loved to drive and continued driving his own car up until his death. In the last few years, he spent a great deal of his time outdoors across the street in the fields with his beloved dog, Bud. He was a very generous man and along with Mariellen they started an endowed scholarship for Hispanic students from Holyoke to attend Holyoke Community College and continue to get a degree from Westfield State University. He will be dearly missed by his wife Mariellen (Donoghue) Quillard, his daughter, Maria of San Jose, CA and her husband Richard Quattrini along with his grandson, Henri Quattrini. He also leaves a sister, Elizabeth Savard of Raleigh, NC and a brother, Francis Quillard of Cranston, RI along with nine nieces and nephews. In addition, he appreciated all caring and support from the neighbors on Alderbrook Lane. Victor's Funeral will be held at 11am on Friday, April 28 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 47 Pine St, West Springfield, MA followed by burial in the St. Thomas Cemetery. Toomey O'Brien Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
