Hanmer, ON

With deep sadness and profound respect, we announce the passing of Victor "Vic" Duhamel, an amazing husband, loving father, proud papa, and wonderful great papa, and the dynamic and pioneering co-founder of Legend Boats. Born on February 15th, 1941, in Lively, Ontario, to Camile and Alma Duhamel (Paquette). Vic called the town of Lively home for 82 years. Victor's early years working in his father's sand and gravel business and working with some accomplished Sudbury businesses laid the foundation for his innovative spirit and business acumen. From humble beginnings starting his business in 1968 selling tires and recreational vehicles at Duhamel and Dewar alongside friend and business partner Carl Dewar, to founding Legend Boats and being inducted into the Canadian Boating Industry Hall of Fame, Victor's journey was remarkable. A visionary who saw beyond the waves, Victor transformed the Canadian boating landscape. He will be remembered for his generosity and his incredible stories of his life experiences. "More than all of this, he loved his soulmate Ruthann and his children. He was a great father and family man. He showed us North America with countless family excursions and he and Ruthann traveled the world together. We will miss his adventurous spirit. " Victor is survived by the love of his life for 60 years, Ruthann (nee Lloyd). His children will deeply miss him, Todd (Donna), Jeff (Luisa), Marc (Denise), and Nicole. Loving papa of 9 grandchildren, Brittany (Ron), Kayleigh (Jake), Sarah (Chris), Megan (Ryan), Taylor (Cory), Brooke (Colin), Matthew (Madeline), Chelsea (Nathan), and Ava (Michael). Proud Great Papa of Adeline, Jensen, and Fynn. He will be missed by his sister Cecile (Pat, predeceased), sister-in-law Sally (Vic), brother-in-law Graham (Ila), sister-in-law Leatha (Gerald, predeceased), sister-in-law Joan (Don, predeceased) and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters Jacquie (Maurice) and Viola (Rolly), in-laws Cecil and Eileen Lloyd, and brothers-in-law Clark (Helen) and Bob (Marnie). Bernard Franklin

Bernard Franklin

Age - 84

Dr. Bernard Franklin ("Bernie") Bernard passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023. He left us quietly and without warning and was most certainly welcomed by his loving wife Clare, along with other family and friends. Bernard leaves behind a legacy of determination, hard work, faith and a true appreciation of the richness of family. Bernard is predeceased by his wife Clare (nee Fleming). He is survived by his children Louise (Terry Roque), Liesel, and Paul (Traci), as well as his 7 grandchildren, Callum and Benjamin Roque, Gillian, Carys, and Aidyn Franklin, and Grace and Matthew Franklin, all of whom warmly called him, "Grumpa. " He is also survived by his extended family in England and Germany. Bernard was born in 1939 in Northumberland, England, which he fondly referred to as "God's Country. " Early in life, Bernard recognized the value of an education and worked with determination to be granted an academic scholarship to the Durham University School of Medicine. He completed various residencies and internships before choosing obstetrics and gynecology as his specialty. Early in his career, Bernard met a "beautiful and competent" RN, Clare, who became his best friend and wife. Together, they nurtured a family of 3 children, immigrated to Canada and worked together at his practice in their new home of Sudbury, Ontario. Their children were their pride and joy. Life reveled around their family as Bernie and Clare instilled their core values through their love and support of their children, well into adulthood. Family and friends were an integral part of Bernie's life. They were always welcome at the Franklin home, where stories, meals and laughter were often shared, as well as words of encouragement when needed. Dear friends became family and will always retain this endearment. During his many years in medicine, Bernard touched countless lives through his expertise and compassion. As a skilled obstetrician, he brought new life to many families, often through complicated pregnancies and deliveries, as well as performing complex surgeries and intricate procedures as a gynecologist. Bernard recognized the extra needs of the marginalized and disadvantaged. He went to great lengths to ensure all patients received empathy and quality care. Bernard and Clare enjoyed their travels back to England and Germany, as well as to sunny and tropical destinations. They also took advantage of work opportunities throughout the years and journeyed to various destinations while Bernard completed locums. Finlandia Village has been Bernie's home for the past few years, where new friends were fondly met. The family would like to extend their most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff and friends, present and past, who have cared for Bernie at Finlandia Village, in particular those in the Kussi Home area. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to the SiSu Foundation at Finlandia or the Sudbury Food Bank. "God Bless. Johannis Kruithof

Johannis Kruithof

Age - 80

December 4, 2023

Obituary for Johannis "Hans" Kruithof Hans (Senior), passed away, peacefully, at HSN, Greater Sudbury, on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the age of 80. He had been in hospital for 4 days due to a stroke when he experienced a major heart attack. Fortunately, he did not suffer long and took his last breath only hours later, with family by his side. We believe he is happy with how he left this planet. Born in the The Netherlands, he came to Canada with his parents and siblings at the age of eight. His family settled and expanded in Cochrane, ON. Having worked on the farm since childhood, Hans left at the young age of 16 to make it on his own. He worked in many parts of the country doing various jobs, but his main employer was INCO (now Vale) where he worked for over 20 years as a Diamond Driller. In this position, he travelled to many remote places in Canada and even spent 6 months in Brazil. Almost 40 years ago, he retired on disability after a workplace accident left him with five pins in his foot and wire throughout his ankle. The doctors told him he would probably not be able to walk after age 60 but he took pride in the fact that he was mobile 20 years longer than predicted. Hans reached milestones that were important to him. He never thought he would get to turn 80 but did that earlier this year. He also looked forward to becoming a great-grandfather which occurred on July 6, 2021. He had no desire to travel anywhere else but did say he wanted to meet an alien. His presence and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He is predeceased by his wife, Cheryl Kruithof (2011); parents, John Kruithof (1989) and Johanna Kruithof (1997); brother Willy Kruithof (Kim)(1994); sister, Lena Van Ballegooie (2021) and granddaughter Amanda Mark (2018). Left to grieve are his daughter, Carrie Alexander of Greater Sudbury; son, Hans Kruithof, Junior (wife Paula) of Innisfil; brother John Kruithof (Kawsar) of Ottawa ; brother Harry Kruithof (Nina) of Cochrane, brother Garry Kruithof (Dianne) of Larder Lake, and little sister, Cora Brown of Kapuskasing; grandchildren, Crystal Kruithof (Calgary); Andrew Mark (Greater Sudbury); Owen and Hudson Kruithof (Innisfil) and great grandchild Jovanni "Jovi" Labelle (Greater Sudbury). In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life may be planned at a later date. In his memory, please carry out a random act of kindness - he would love that.
